Well...I don't know how I did it...but I did it. Nearly 11 months after translating the first chapter of it, the 17.5 volume-long epic known as the Tenchou Gorin Daibukai arc...is finally complete! 160 chapters of all sorts of strange competition (that seemed to get stranger by the chapter), bizarre techniques, heroic sacrifices and all out manliness and guts are finally behind me...and all I want to do now is relax for a bit. Honestly, while I could do a massive rant about this arc, for the most part I just want to say this: the arc brings out the best and the worst of shonen but you have to take it for what it is. Honestly I loved it for all of it's play on cliches and insane battle styles from the good and bad guys...though do realize it's weaknesses of being a tad predictable in its flow of battles and rather lacking in too much character development outside a few things here or there. But hey, for a battle manga at least it did it's job with flying colors...

The chapter itself was for the most part a conclusion regarding the whole arc as a whole, with what could be the final downfall of Toudou. (can't quite say without spoiling if this really is the end of Toudou or not...but considering he was sliced in two by Momo with Akashi's sword, he's going to need to recover a bit if he did survive) The whole idea of Toudou keeping a rocket under Meiou Island and planning to blow it up did remind me more of a James Bond movie than Otokojuku, but this is a series where guys fight with tennis racquets and springs on their heads, so considering Toudou's nature it makes sense for him. But hey, the way Momo got onto the ship, sliced Toudou and then landed right near a raft just as Meiou Island blew to smithereens was epic enough so just let it be considering it is a silly but appropriate conclusion for the arc. For once, good (well, good in the sense of Otokojuku good) has triumphed and Toudou is brought down...even with all of the prime island real estate gone forever. Honestly this would be the perfect point to break from Otokojuku...but with 6.5 volumes left and an antsy fanbase (of at least two people...maybe more), I might as well dive right into our next arc next time...where things get...well, it's hard to say but let's let it be for when it happens.
