Ta-chan's life changed when he ended up meeting and ultimately training with Gori-san instead of a lion. But consider this: what if he chose to be trained by the lion instead? Well...

No. 25: Jungle Champion: Leota

66.
Jane’s Caption: A test of preparing for calamity and putting water into the bath!!
Helen: Hakke yoi, nokotta
(TN: The two words stated by Helen are two both associated with sumo: “hakke yoi” is said by the referee of the match when both wrestlers have stopped significant action, while “nokotta” is the referee stating that the match isn’t over)
Ta-chan: It’s not over, it’s not over.
Narrator: Gori-san is a strong being who chimes in being Africa’s strongest gorilla since youth!!
Helen: Ta-chan-zeki won. The champion of the location of Africa is Ta-chan-zeki!!
(TN: A “zeki” is a term used as an honorific for makuuchi and juryo sumo wrestlers)
Jane: Just a moment, Ta-chan: stop playing and please fix this bow that has broken it’s string.
Caption: Of course, she’s getting in the way because the two of them are getting along.

67.
Helen: Next up is Jane-zeki’s bow-twirling ceremony.
(TN: The “bow-twirling ceremony”, known in Japanese as “yumitori-shiki”, is a special ceremony used at the conclusion of every day of sumo wrestling by a designated wrestler from the makushita division)
SFX: Kuru kuru kuru
Jane: What are you doing! (If I add a top-knot, I don’t resemble Oonokuni)
(TN: “Oonokuni” refers to “Oonokuni Yasushi” [born Yasushi Aoki], the 62nd Yokozuna of sumo holding the position between 1987 and 1991)
Helen: He—Ta-chan was raised by Gori-san too when he was a child?
Jane: It seems his sex education was by this guy.
SFX: Don don don
Helen: It’s true: he’s doing drumming* that gorillas well do.
*They beat their chest and intimidate when they’re agitated.
Jane: Because he swallowed it in a hurry.
SFX: Ban
Caption: Peach seed

68.
Ta-chan: Raita the Shooting Star.
(TN: It’s interesting that “Raita” is the name of the lion, considering the “Lai” is the first two katakana in the Japanese way of saying “lion”)
Narrator: That is Raita the Shooting Star, the lion that sat as the strongest animal in Africa and often challenged Gori-san long ago.
Caption: Ta-chan as a child.
SFX: Dota
Helen & Jane: Gya~~!! He half-ate that body; it’s a man-eating lion!!

69.
Ta-chan: Boy, don’t do these tricks.
“Boy”: Buhahahahaha, you’ve seen through this well. As expected of the king of the jungle!!
Ta-chan: Hey, Raita, from where did you take this boy? If you don’t return it quickly, you’ll be meeting with cruel eyes.
“Boy”: Don’t touch me relaxed, pops!
(TN: The boy refers to Ta-chan as “Tousan”, which is a way of saying “father” but I decided to make it “pops” because he’s a kid)
Ta-chan: Pops?
Leota: I am Jungle Champion Leota, found and raised by Raita the Shooting Star!!
Jane: A child of an abnormal upbringing like yours has suddenly appeared.
Ta-chan: Do you have some business?

70.
Leota: I’ve come to challenge King of the Jungle Ta-chan!!
SFX: Pero pero
Caption: Tidying his hair.
Jane: The tidying of hair, which shows the bond of fellow allies, is being done to a human. Those two have a strong connection.
Ta-chan: O—K, can I lose in that? You’re going to tidy my testicle hair. (lick it)
Ta-chan: You’ve won this match. (I’m not joking)
Leota: I’m not pleased even if I’ve won that. Can’t we fight fair and square!!

71.
Narrator: And so
Helen: Don’t lose, TA-chan.
SFX: Ba
Ta-chan: This is like the movements of a lion! It’s an attack of claws and fangs!!
Ta-chan: But ultimately a kid is a kid. It’s about here that the one who will end up punished is to the advantage of the child.
Ta-chan: I’ll end this!!

72.
SFX: Sa
Helen: Raita put out his body and is protecting Leota!!
Ta-chan: You’ve been raised by a good animal. Correctly train yourself again and come to challenge me anytime.
Leota: OK.
Leota: Raita, as long as I am, from here think of me as your true child and work me hard relentlessly!
Raita: Gau (Fine)
Narrator: Lions push their cubs into bottomless valleys to train them.
SFX: Poi
Leota: Hieeeee…
Ta-chan: It was great I was found by chimps.

6. Unhappiness
When I rent a pornographic video from a rental video store.
When I am seen at a glance and understood “Hey don’t be serious about that”.

Caption 1: And thus, a video I rent when I’m drunk isn’t for you like a video that I rent prior.
Tokuhiro: Huh?
Caption on Box: TV
Caption 2: Prior, when I was returning a video (Japanese Movie “Baka Yarou”), suddenly there was an acquaintance middle schooler and he said “Porn Video”.
Middle Schooler: Porn Video
Caption 3: The concept of that is sad……
(TN: “Baka Yarou” refers to a film that is fully called “Bakayaro! Watashi Okottemasu” (You Idiot! I’m Plenty Mad), a film now known as the first film directed by several notable young directors, including Tetsuya Nakashima and Yukihiro Tsutsumi)

TN: Well at least we now know the merit of being trained by simians over big cats: simians are at least easier to deal and negotiate with. (at least talking of Gori-san...Etekichi is still a weirdo) I sort of imagine Leota in this chapter as a "what if" in Ta-chan's situation, whereas "what if he went with his first idea of training with Raita instead of with Gori-san". I doubt he would have turned out as bratty as Leota regardless...but then again I think the main key regarding why Ta-chan is who he is partially can be blamed on Etekichi regardless of who he ended up with. I sort of do like the lion though...the kid you can keep.
