Chapter 11

p.48
I can’t hear you

MIKA: ...Sigh...
SFX: phew...
SFX: tap x 2
ISSHIN: .........

MIKA: ...Can I ask your opinion on something, Tobira-kun?
ISSHIN: I’m sorry,
SFX: tap x 2
ISSHIN: I’m at a good spot right now. Would you mind asking someone else?

SFX: tap x 4

MIKA: ...What I’m about to say is purely hypothetical. A hypothetical situation.
SFX: sigh...
MIKA: Please keep that in mind while listening to me, okay?
ISSHIN: ......
ISSHIN: Do you not have any other friends?

p.49
Autosuggestion*
*[note: Making yourself believe something]

ISSHIN: ...I see.
You observed the existence of an overly friendly person of the opposite gender near someone you are a bit interested in...
SFX: clack [fixing glasses]
MIKA: I...it’s purely hypothetical, okay? Hypothetical!

ISSHIN: Although it would be best to ask that person directly,
ISSHIN: According to my experience it must be......
SFX: gulp
MIKA: Is must be?

ISSHIN: Most likely, a member of the opposite gender that pops up near your target and acts peculiarly over-familiar is———
ISSHIN: [bold]Either a sibling or a relative![bold]
MIKA: [white bold]!![white bold]
MIKA: [white bold]That’s it!![white bold]

ISSHIN: ...Well, I’m just talking about in games...
MIKA: Oh what, so they were just siblings
SFX: Fwiii
MIKA: And I was so surprised, geez.

p.50
He’s right, to a certain extent

MIKA: ...Now that I think about it, even people going out don’t piggyback very much...
Mutter: Maybe carrying in your arms, but...
SFX: hee hee
MIKA: They were probably just working together as siblings to replace the lights or something... Uh huh.

DAIGO: ...Ah,
MIKA: [bold]...Oh!?[bold]

DAIGO: Uhhh... You were...
Mutter: ummm...
MIKA: .........
SFX: fshhh
She froze as it was just too sudden.

DAIGO: I-watchin’-you...-senpai? [1]
SFX: kaboom
MIKA: It’s Iwachidori!!

p.51
Since she was small

DAIGO: Right, it was Iwachidori-senpai.
Mutter: I remember now.
MIKA: It’s fine if you remembered, uh huh...
MIKA: M...make sure not to forget it again...!

DAIGO: M’kay, then.
SFX [above]: turn
MIKA: Wha!?
MIKA: Wa...wait a second!!

DAIGO: ...?
DAIGO: You need something?
MIKA: Huh...? Ummm...
SFX: oh!
MIKA: I...is your little sister doing well...?

DAIGO: ...Little sister?
MIKA: B...big sister!
MIKA: Right, your big sister!!

p.52
Of course that’s a lie

DAIGO: You were acquainted with my big sis?
MIKA: ...Huh!?
MIKA: Ummm... Well...
Mutter: How should I put it...

DAIGO: I see...
My big sis is, [ i]you know,[ i] so she may be causing a lot of trouble for you, but...
DAIGO: She really means no harm.
Please do try to get along with her.

MIKA: Y...
MIKA: Yes, of course...!

DAIGO: Thanks, Iwachidori-senpai.
MIKA: L...
SFX: swing, swing
MIKA: Leave it to me...!!

p.53
Say whatever comes to mind

...I’ve...
MIKA: What should I do...
SFX: depressed
I’ve done it now...

Break 23

UME: [bold]I won’t forget! I won’t forget![bold]
UME: [bold]I will not forget it![bold]

Way back, the mangaka Mi—ru Yaku* apparently had a slightly stalker-ish hobby of
“Taking home straws and ashtrays that famous people used to add to his collection.”
*[Mitsuru Yaku]

UME: [bold]I will not forget it![bold]
SAKU: [bold]I won’t forget![bold]

UME: ...Also, the fact that recently, although you can’t tell since he wears a hat, the top of his head seemed a little sparse.
UME: [bold]I won’t forget![bold]
SAKU: [bold]Forget that, for him![bold]

p.55.
Makeover

SFX: walking by
KIKU: ......
SFX: stare
MIZU: Is something the matter Okiku-san?

KIKU: Oh... no, you remember the game that Tobira-san got you?
The heroine in that had blonde hair, so I was wondering if Tobira-san likes blondes...
KIKU: ...It would be weird if I dyed my hair blonde, wouldn’t it?
SFX: Pff

MIZU: [white bold]That’s a great idea![white bold]
SFX: smile~
MIZU: [white bold]It would surely look good on you!![white bold]
SFX: thumbs up
KIKU: ...Yeah, I think I’ll forget about it.

p.56
Break 24

UME: You know, several decades from now...
SAKU: Huh?

UME: If cloning technology were to be established and legalized,
UME: I think that might become very valuable...
SAKU: What would?

UME: [bold]Yaku Mi—ru’s collection.[bold]
SFX: gulp
SAKU: You’re still going on about that!?

p.57
Daina Tatsunami ①

Daigo Tatsunami’s older sister Daina Tatsunami (17)
Friend 1: [bold]Shiva-san~[bold]

Friend 1: Let’s eat together~
DAINA: Okay, sure~
Friend 2: Shiva~ the teacher wanted to talk to you.
Friend 3: Did you do something, Shiva-san?

Friend 2: You should hurry up, Shiva.
DAINA: Okay
......
Friend 1: Then I’ll go to the cafeteria first, Shiva-san.
DAINA: Okay
......

DAINA: ...Say, I know I should’ve asked this before, but why am I called “Shiva”?

Friends: [white bold]Wha!?[white bold]

DAINA: I’ll be going to the teacher, then~

p.59
Mizuki Asagiri‘s pointless story

MIZU: I was watching TV yesterday and there was some news about the trial of a celebrity who was arrested for using drugs.
KIKU: Oh, I remember that.

In that program, the announcer
Announcer: The defendant ----‘s [blank/censored] verdict has been revealed.
...said that, but,

To me,
Announcer: Half the defendant ----’s butt has been revealed.
...it sounded like that.
[note: Verdict and “half butt” are both “hanketsu,” which the announcer is saying has “come out”]

MIZU: My heart skipped a beat at that.
SFX: teehee
KIKU: Oh, is that so...
KIKU: What a pointless story...

p.60
Break 25

UME: There are various terms like “maiden work*,” “virgin snow,” “virgin land,” “maiden flight,” “maiden voyage”... [3]
*[note: work as in book or some sort of project]
UME: I believe how “first” is expressed by “maiden” and “voyage” is sexist so let’s restate them!
SAKU: Y...yay~

UME: [bold]“Cherry boy work!”[bold]
SAKU: S...sounds lofty in creativity!

UME: [bold]“Cherry boy snow!” “Cherry boy land!”[bold]
SAKU: Th...that’s hard to comment on...!

UME: [bold]“Cherry boy flight!” “Cherry boy voyage!”[bold]
SAKU: T...try your best!!

p.61
Break 26

UME: But still, I wonder why they’re all “maidens” and “virgins.”
SAKU: Who knows?

TEACH: There were cultures that prized virgins since ancient times.
TEACH: Yukio Mishima wrote that virgins were like gems.
The savior of mankind of a certain religion was conceived by a virgin.

[none]

TEACH: ...Well, it’s all from the standpoint of a male-dominated society ※This is an individual’s opinion
SFX: blow
SFX: cough, cough
UME: Why hello there, sensei.

p.62
Break 27

UME: I’d think a virgin and a cherry boy are similar, though.
TEACH: ...Someone once made this allegory:

[bold]A well-defended castle (♀) may be attractive,[bold]
[bold]But a soldier (♂) who cannot even bring down one castle is worthless...[bold]

UME: [white bold]...That’s easy to understand![white bold]
TEACH: Well, there are also castles that can’t be invaded by anyone...

UME: .........
UME: Sensei, could it be that...
TEACH: Could it be that, what?
TEACH: [bold]Say it to my face, why don’cha? [bold]

p.63
New mugen* series
*[note: infinite/endless]

MIZU: Oww...
KIKU: Wuzzup, Mizukichi?

MIZU: Don’t you ever pick at scabs without really thinking?
MIZU mutter: It was too early...
KIKU: Ah~ I know, I know.
KIKU: You want to peel it relentlessly.

MIZU: Then I thought of something.
MIZU: What if they made a product out if it, like with bubble wrap or edamame?* [4]
*[Edamame are those green soybeans that usually come in pods of two or three and you pop them out into your mouth. Mmmm.]
KIKU: Wut?

MIZU: It’d be called [bold]“Infinite Scab.”[bold]
SFX: peel
∞ Scab
KIKU: [scary font]Disgusting!![scary font]

p.63
An important matter

[none]

MIZU: ...What do you mean by disgusting?
KIKU: Wut?

MIZU: Are you talking about the idea of the “infinite scab?”
KIKU: Right, right,

MIZU: Or me, the one who thought up of something like that?
KIKU: [bold]N...No!?[bold]

~~notes~~

[1] Forgive me once again for the lameness. He’s mixing up her name, Iwachidori, with “chidoriashi” which refers to walking/staggering while crossing your legs.

[2] Her friends actually call her “Hashimoto” in Japanese. She is named after the Japanese professional wrester nicknamed the “king of destruction.”

[3] All the terms she says in Japanese start with “shojo,” or female virgin, while she changes it to “doutei,” or male virgin, which I used “cherry boy” for. In the English language, “virgin” is used to specifically refer to females very often (especially way back when (I think)), so since I kept using virgin to refer to female virgins :P I hope you got all that.

[4] This reminds me of the bubble wrap app/game/whatever that my friend had on his phone-amajig (don’t know, don’t care about those kinds of technologies -.-). It had some bubbles that you popped when you touched them on the touch screen, and of course they came right back. That was it; it was just for the enjoyment of popping virtual bubble wrap. Well, most people seem to like bubble wrap, including myself, so it’s pretty funny. It also reminds me of an actual toy I saw in a Japanese store: an infinite can where you can endlessly enjoy the sensation of peeling open a can (you know, with a can tab). This is Japan folks, and these are not among the weirdest products you can find.
