Chapter 2 of Chevalier. 40+ pages of more awesome.

This translation is reserved for Strays and Strays alone. Everyone else, please DO NOT use this to scanlate.

Also, the Del Rey version will be coming out in July this year, be sure to buy that and support them. I'm sure their translation will be excellent.

It's a bit early for worship,

I occasionally use the church's reading room as a place of study.

Wow... there are mountains of books.

What's this...?

That is a psalm.

A psalm...?

Page 98
Written in the blood of pious maidens such as yourself,

it is a poem.

Hone your skills!

The public order in Paris grows worse every day!

These times test our dignity as the Paris city police!

Page 100
Well now, d'Eon! To think I'd see you training in earnest!

So you're finally realizing your duties as a Paris poli-...

Hmm...

局長!
Chief!

This rifle is odd!

なに?
What?

No matter how much I fire it, I never hit the target.

*knock-knock*

キラ
*sparkle*

... d'Eon, you bastard...

プル
*shake*

How many shots have you fired?

Umm, about 200 or so.

Page 101
You good-for-nothing!! *perhaps a French word for this?

Ouch!

Do not waste our supply of gunpowder!!

But it won't hit the target!

That's because your marksmanship is so atrocious!

How absolutely stupid can you be!

As punishment, you will repair every single rifle we have!

Huuuuh!?!

So, as usual, you're the only one who has to work overtime, right?

*meow*

Don't look so pleased about it and help me out here...

The chief meted out this punishment for your sake,

it would be inexcusable for me, your servant, to ignore that.

Page 101
And on top of all that you're as skilled as ever.

Please let me know when you plan on firing your weapon.

That way I can find cover without delay.

I plug my ears without dely whenever you open your mouth, Robin.

Besides, my blade is more than enough.

Page 102
Wow! Well done!

*meow*

If only your marksmanship was at least average, you could become a dragoon.

How heartrending.

That is none of your business!!

Page 104
Have you come all the way to the parade grounds just to be sarcastic, Robin?

I was told, "The fawn cried."

A message from the white horse.

The fawn?

Could it be... a Poete?

I don't know...

Paris is steadily growing larger...

*grip*

So large that there would be no uproar should more victims appear...

Page 105
Only the fawn...

Can tell me where the hidden victims are...

Well now,

this place is as vast as usual.

Where is his Majesty...

Paaahh-ahhm!

Your Majesty...

as your wife, d'Eon?

I do? But you are the only one who understands Sophia's situation.

Lady Sophia.

Ah-ahh-ahhh.

Lady Sophia?

Ah-aahnn.

Ahhhm.

Page 110

Poeme...

The letters of the Palms... have summoned another Poete...

a worthless poem of the revolution appears on my daughter's body.

You have asked le Secret's analyst

about the mirrored letters that appear on Sophia, yes?

はい
I have.

There is but one purpose for having the letters mirrored...

For printing.

Hmph... to use my daughter's skin of all things to publish their poetry of the revolution.

Our enemy is quite the jester.

Page 112
Everytime these letters appear on her body...

The words disappear from my daughter's mouth...

The only ones left to her are the words of the Palms.

Destroy le Poete that stole the words from my daughter.

And make her...

Make her say the word "father" again.

Page 113

are the tears of a sacrifice to your abominable poem...

As one who has wept the same tears,

I will take vengeance upon you, Poete.

My brother found out immediately.

Girls of the same age were disappearing on the same day of the week.

All of the girls were Baptist.

I'm sure the city police also realized,

that they came to this church.

The first time I embraced the poetic power of the Palms letters before me,

I was overwhelmed with pleasure.

Just how many lives have you taken...

I wonder...?

Translation's out so that means Chevalier chapter 2 scanlation by Strays will be out soon (unless it's still hard to clean). Thanks zind!

Now if only the Del Ray version would be available in my country as well when it's released. I don't want to buy online as much as possible.

I think it will be out in a week, a week and a half at most. The chapter is already cleaned, but the typesetting is more time consuming than the cleaning anyway.[br]Posted on: 11 January 2007, 21:13:10_________________________________________________

Also, the Del Rey version will be coming out in July this year, be sure to buy that and support them. I'm sure their translation will be excellent.

Ugh, that means we gotta hustle, I guess.

Quote by Siedhr :

That is a psalm.

I put the comma there for emphasis, like when someone says THAT... (exaggerating the pause here), is a psalm.

Quote by Siedhr :
Horribly terrible? How about Atrocious?

Yeah, I thought it wasn't that great myself. I was trying to get across the fact that the Japanese doubled up on the bad, literally "atrociously bad". We'll just go with atrocious.

Quote by Siedhr :

I didn't like the repetition of quickly, and I think my suggestion fits Robin's rather pompous speech pattern. I love Robin.

The repetition is actually in the Japanese though, d'Eon is mocking Robin. How's about we keep it as "without delay" and then have d'Eon say it as well?

For instance: "I plug my ears without dely whenever you open your mouth, Robin."

Quote by Siedhr :

(shouldn't it be Psalms?)

You're asking me? Heh, I'd ask Mr. Ubukata Tou on that front. It's spelled Palms in the chapter.

Quote by Siedhr :

Yep, take off the "has been written" from the end.

Quote by Siedhr :
Does that means the lions are in the rubbish, as in the lower levels of society? In that case maybe "the riotous lions burried/hidden/lying in rubbish/trash/waste."

I like hidden.

Perhaps "the riotous lions hidden within the rubbish."

Quote by Siedhr :

I get why you used period here, but it sounds really bad. How about: "I shall now write an end to you." Keeps the literary reference and gets rid of the period.

But you see, in my opinion it doesn't really keep the literary reference as well as saying period would, perhaps a better worded sentence? I actually like the use of the word period in this particular case, though I agree the original sentence doesn't sound that great. (If all else fails we can remove the word period, but I don't think it would be the entirely wisest decision.)

How about:
"I shall now put a period to your poem."
"I shall now write in your final period."
"It is time to wrte in your final period."

Or something else.

Quote by Siedhr :
The heights of my poetic power will slice through a life as if it were paper.

He wasn't talking about his poetic abilities, just in general that poetic power at its extremes can slice through lives as though they were paper.

Quote by Siedhr :

Exusiai, Archai, Dynamis, Kyriotetes. Loose A Bao A Qu!

Judging from some of my research, it should probably be "Loose the A Bao A Qu," as

Quote by Siedhr :
That is your end...

This was the one that I had kind of talked to you about, they stray from period here and I had only too recently found out that it should be "point finale".

So, "That is your point finale..."

I think ellipses might work better than a comma. Or maybe bolding "That".

Ah, I didn't catch the subtle mocking. Yes, that would work very well.

Quote:

I wonder if it's not a mistake. There's another place I think there should be Psalms instead of Palms. "The letters of the Palms ... have summoned another Poete..."

Can't really tell. Entirely your call.

Perhaps "the riotous lions hidden within the rubbish."

That sounds good.

Then how about: "The magnificence of the poetic power will slice through a life as if it were paper."

Okay. I put the "loose" there so that we don't forget about it.

Okay. I'm thinking that we're missing some sort of reference here about this point finale, putting a period at the end of the poem. It's clearly some sort of ritual, I believe it's more than a metaphor. I just don't know what it is. I'll do some research and maybe come up with something.

I'll bold it then, because it doesn't merit an ellipsis, it's just putting more emphasis on the word.

I'd just leave it Palms. Ubukata looks so far ahead when he crafts these stories it's pretty ridiculous. He also does shit tons of research. I don't think it's a mistake. Remember they do talk about the actual palm leaf as being symbolic in chapter one as well.

Quote by Siedhr :

Then how about: "The magnificence of the poetic power will slice through a life as if it were paper."

"The magnificence of poetic power will slice through a life as if it were paper." Removed the "the" there, it makes it more general, in my opinion.

The 'point finale' would be a period. I think that's really the only reference, though I could also be underestimating Ubukata on this particular one. It may just be bad French, too. While Ubukata does do a lot of research, you have to remember that they actually spell Chevalier "chevarier" at some point.
