Companion. A new series by Yoshitomo Akihito, author of RAY and Eat-Man. It's hard to explain this series without spoiling it, but we'll try.
Companion is about the people who escort you from purgatory into the world of the dead. After you die you must go through your personal gate into the world of the dead, and companions are the ones who lead you there.
Not sure if this is reserved for any particular scanlator group or not, but for now the translation is private.

①I used the word soul reapers to refer to shinigami. It's not exactly a Bleach reference, but it is a really good way to translate the term in my opinion. Not to mention we probably won't hear it in many other places in the manga, it doesn't seem worth it to use a Japanese word there and explain it. Other alternates would be something like Death, (capital D). UPDATE: Switched to Death, works better in my opinion.

Chapter seems pretty long for just presenting a girl dealing with a traumatic experience of realized she just died, but I suppose the art makes up for it.
Translation seems really good. It's obvious Mako was pretty woozy the whole way through and you managed to be able to convey that through her thoughts in English. Looking forward to the next chapter and finding out more about Lord Aya. Hopefully the pace will be a little bit faster in the next one, though.
The thing is, I don't translate for the most veteran manga readers, heh, I translate for people who would just be picking it up on a whim. That's one of the main reasons why I try my damnedest to remove all Japanese that is possible from the script. Looking at notes merely throws you out of the experience, really. A "soul reaper" as a descriptor is pretty good for defining what a "shinigami" is, though thinking about it now, I'm probably going to go back and change some of the lines.
"Are you Death?" for instance. That makes perfect sense to most, if not all, English readers, I would think.

I actually like Reaper more than Death. Death makes me think of Terry Pratchett. Reaper has a more sinister feel to it. Like it refers to a person, rather than an event.
How about "The key's in my bag."
You don't drive a bicycle, you ride one, heh.
How about: "You're reapers...!" or with a capital R, though it won't make too much difference.

Indeed. Forgot it was a bike. But is that something you'd actually say? Like in everyday conversation? I'm asking since I don't know.
Hell, I used to dress as a reaper almost every halloween for a while (hey, I had a kick-ass skull mask.)
