View Full Version : Student of Japanese here to get some practice

So my name is Tanne, I'm a 22-year-old student of languages, English, German and Japanese in particular, and translating is just what I do.

Back when I was 10, I liked acquiring English language comics (specifically Pokémon manga) and translate them into German. I kept adding more languages to my repertoire, the most current one, with 4 years of study, being Japanese.

I'm not very manga literate, to be honest. I just like a few specific ones and the rest I have no idea about.

So here's the one's I like: ピカチュウ (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E9%9B%BB%E6%92%83%E3%83%94%E3%82%AB%E3%83%81%E3%83%A5%E3%82%A6-%E3%81%A6%E3%82%93%E3%81%A8%E3%81%86%E8%99%AB%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%82%B9%E3%83%9A%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A3%E3%83%AB-%E3%83%9D%E3%82%B1%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E3%83%A2%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%82%A2%E3%83%8B%E3%83%A1%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF-%E3%81%8A%E3%81%AE-%E3%81%A8%E3%81%97%E3%81%B2%E3%82%8D/dp/4091493416/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304034897&sr=1-3) (out of nostalgia)

And now the freaky stuff: I own about 100 or so doujinshi of Sherlock Holmes stories, be that of the original books, the Robert Downey Jr movie, the BBC series from 2010... I even own 3 House M.D. doujinshi, just because he's based on the detective.

I just really really like Japan and Sherlock Holmes, and those obsessions combined are more powerful than the sum of their parts. I have made strong bonds with Japanese people just over the fact that we adore the crime scenes of Victorian England.

But other than that, I'm almost normal.

Hey Tanne, welcome to mangahelpers.

Knowing many languages is pretty cool.
We have an International Resort Japanese Thread (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31). That you might like.
There are also threads about German and other languages there.

See the Manga works > MH Academy > Learning Center (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=871)

Thanks for the links and the kind words. I'm already in the middle of translating something, so hopefully I'll be contributing something soon.
