Souma, a soon-to-be high school student, always had a dream to surpass his old man when it comes to cooking. But under some circumstances, his father was forced to leave the country and close their restaurant. After graduating, his father made him attend Japan's finest cooking school. Determined that this will help him to reach his goal, Souma takes the entrance examination not knowing what lies ahead.

i read the 1 chapter and i am not so sure whether i like this or not.i actually was expecting some sort of normal cooking manga(at least WSJ normal), it turned out to be toriko and yakitate!! japan's love child. also ecchiness should have been done in moderation but alas almost every other page we have a "food rape" scene. (no offence meant). i like cooking mangas but this might be (for now) more about ecchi less about food. we'll see what will happen soon enough i guess.

You're right, it has the Yakitate style of exaggerated reaction of the tasters but this time in a more erotic/ecchi kind of way. But I don't know, I expected this to have lots of ecchi (in fact, I expected more than the first chapter had), since, if I recall correctly, Saeki Shun is a ****** artist.

didnt know that about saeki shun but you were right he apperently is "god of ******" according to the folks @ myanimelist. well we may get another akamatsu ken (wishfull thinking) if story gets in to gear.

Saeki shun also known as Tosh, known for his Harem Time and other series.

If this manga cannot survive in Jump, maybe they should serialized it in Young Jump to replace Addicted to Curry taht going to end soon.

I promised myself over and over again that I'd hate this and then I didn't.

Ecchi stuff was kind of annoying but I like cooking manga and the art's crazy good so far.

Well when you know that he is a ****** mangaka, the tentacle scene his really funny and it's so exaggerated that it bother me less than soft ecchi series (has there ever been a nude monk scene in another manga :-)).
I was more annoyed by the ultra fast pace. I know it's a problem of Jump mangas but here it was a bit to forced to my taste. In particular when the father comes back and leave immediately without much explanations.

For me, the pacing was okay, though yeah, it was noticeably a bit fast. I actually thought I'm off to the last page when the thing with the realtor was resolved but then the case with his father leaving came up which lead to the main focus of the story which is Souma entering the prestige school. Which I found actually better.

IMHO, basing on the pilot chapters, Souma is the most entertaining out of the three new series of JUMP, with Hungry Joker being the least. So I'm rooting for this one.

As I expected, I like this for its theme (cooking) but I'm not too sold on the execution. Wasn't big on the ecchi or the quick pacing, it made the first chapter seem somewhat convoluted. I do wanna see where the cooking aspect goes to since I've never read a shonen cooking series.

I. LOVE. THIS.

Like the first chapter I was skeptical, despite loving the ecchi and the cooking (and hate hate HATING the digital tones), but after the next two... Man, it just makes you feel too good (not like that). Not as good as Kiruko-san, but certainly a series I want to see succeed.

You won't be disapointed (yes I spoiled myself a little bit). Seems like we will have the tsundere girl right from the start.
I'm not sure I will be a big fan of this. The genious characters are not really my cup of tea. But I like cooking manga so I guess it will be on the divertissement side if it manages to stay

i just read the 2-3 and 4th chapters. it really doesnt go like other starters. it set its own pace and went with it. i also started to liked the tasting scenes.

now the question for me is who will be the woman that souma has to "find to feed" to be the best like his father said. Erina like many other shounen series or the village girl? i am gonna root for the village girl.....

You're either spoiling without using spoiler tags, or I just can't find the English Edited Manga of the 4th chapter...

Anyways, like k-dom and Maxy said, I was not disappointed with the orgasm Erina had. That was funny and erotic at the same time, like Yakitate!! meets To-Love-Ru in one. Though the end of the chapter really is not what I, at least, expected which I like.

I hope we could catch up with the latest chapters soon and can get to read this simultaneously with the release of the raws, with the coming double-issues, it seems possible.

Chapter 4 is this week chapter so it's not that far behind. The souma devil/angels were really cute. I don't understand how she could tell him no :-))
Now I'm not sure how he will manage to get to the school back, she doesn't seem like a girl who changes mind.

I must said I'm starting to want this serie to last a bit. So I'm curious about its future ranking

The Director looks so boss. And damn it I'm loving Souma as a lead, he's a mix of dumb and clever. The new introduction of the new character was like awkward but after learning her role, I can't stop thinking about the crazy stuff that's gonna happen with the two of 'em. lol

I'm loving this series.

It still blows my mind how much this surpassed my expectations. And with chapters that are as ecchi-free as this last one, it might *just* about manage to get decent weekly votes too
