Oh boy I know I'll be watching that at least. If they can get the director for Prison School and JC staff again that would be perfect.

Are you guys reading Grashros? It's not bad of a manga with only 2 chapters translated so far

It's getting translated? It caught my attention as soon as I saw the cover for it.

I haven't read it yet, but I may look over the first chapter when I have some free time next weekend since the story seems really different than everything else. The author seems like he writes mainly dramatic, serious, action serious, which aren't usually what I'm after in my reading list, but the premise and setting do pique my interest.

I never really realized it, but Weekly Young Magazine actually has a very interesting mix of series currently running in it. It looks like it's running a few different series focused on different historical events or time periods as central points to the plot. Some kind of new-ish series about a mummy awakening in current time could be interesting and humorous if they take it in that direction, but I think it's untranslated. They have all degrees of ecchi covered: light & playful with Tejina Senpai (please get better ASAP Az and resume this!), graphic & risque with Nande koko ni sensei ga!?, rough & ready with Prison School, and basically ****** with Parallel Paradise. I'm sure I'm missing some, but these are the ones I'm aware of. The plot of Back Street Girls caught me totally off-guard, but made me want to figure out exactly what's going on. Also, it looks like there are a couple of SOL series mixed in there, despite the preference for serious drama and ecchi series currently running.

Long story short, I'll have to keep an eye on this magazine more than I used to.

There are a lot of things that sort of look interesting in there, this mag also has the typical problem of things generally not being translated, but after taking a quick glance there are 4-5 newer things that seem to have translations going on. I've only really gotten into Kaiji as something from the magazine, but the anime only. I also read 179 chapters of Prison school and it was one of the funniest things I've ever come across, I need to get back to it, the anime was also great.

That's what I'm noticing as well. I just found the raws for that mummy series I mentioned in my last post, Fara Otto, it is looks like it's a fairly funny, half-length comedy/gag manga. I haven't read or watched Prison School yet, but I've heard really good things about it. Perhaps with the success of Prison School and the buzz being generated by the plot of Back Street Girl's anime announcement, this magazine as a whole may get more attention and possibly more translations may get picked up from here.

@Aipom626 whatever you do just don't read Parallel Paradise, I seriously ever regret looking into this manga, shit scarred me. It's truly what you would call "ecchi garbage". Prison School is great but the Calvary arc was super long and drawn out but the current arc is better.

I'm curious to see what I'll think of the Cavalry arc, since I'll pretty much be reading it in a continuous flow and won't have to wait for things to progress on a weekly basis.

After a quick glance at Parralel Paradise, I noticed it was from the author of Elfen Lied and Gokukoku no Brynhildr and that told me enough to avoid it since I wasn't a fan of either of those two. xD

Too late brother, too late lol. There's some crazy stuff going on in there, ranging from mostly outrageous sex stuff but also some surprisingly graphic sad scenes. While calling it "ecchi garbage" is pretty accurate, it looks like it has been selling pretty well. I don't know what separates the border between basically ****** and ******, but whatever that factor is, it must be sitting on that line.

It also helps that the author is pretty well known and has a decent following in Japan.

Ah, well that helps explain some things then. Plus, I'm sure a decent number of people are purchasing it solely for the numerous sex scenes rather than the actual plot. I still prefer this to something like World's End Harem, but series like these typically don't have much more to them than what meets the eye. Even if the plot and lore in Parallel Paradise get better, the majority of buyers will be in it solely for the author and nudity.

I mean, I don't know if you've read Prison school or watched the anime(if you haven't you should probably try it out at least), the series can be borderline pornographic as well but God damn that isn't the main strenghth of the series, the comedy is then you add the excellent art on top of that and then you add the other things. I will wish you good luck on your dangerous journey.

I haven't done anything with Prison School yet, but I'm planning on getting to it sometime next year when I have more free time. I like ecchi scenes when they add something to a scenario or dynamic that already exists, such as romance or comedy. However, when ecchiness itself is basically all there is to a series, especially as graphic as it is in Parallel Paradise, I tend to think more skeptically. There's like 1 or 2 things that have me curious in Parallel Paradise, which is just enough to keep me reading unless things get too out of hand in a sexually explicit way.

Oh boy, little do you know. At the end of the day, maybe the comedy won't be your kind of comedy and things might not click with you, but if they do, then great.

Honestly, I kind of expected it to happen soon, the manga didn't have many things left to do when I put it on-hold. This will surely motivate me to pick it up quicker to see how it ends.

From comments I've been reading online, it seems like things must've slowed down in more recent arcs. But still, this has to be one of Young Magazine's biggest sellers. I wonder what they're planning on having succeed this in terms of being a big seller
