you just described the entire magazine battle manga line up
that their whole gimmick, exorcism and fighting demons
They wanted some new manga that fit their thing? Still, both BT and Kemono Jihen are incredibly similar and started in the same month.

they have started exorcism manga in the past
they are starting exorcism manga now
they will start exorcism manga in the future

makes no difference to them which one is a success and which one is a flop

my point is BT and KJ premise doesn't give them immunity to getting axed, they can always start some more

I didn't say it gave either of them immunity, I just pointed it out, and then I though about it a little bit more and the similarities between the 2 are glaring, it feels like they intentionally started them both up at the same time. The fact that both are almost the same thing makes me believe they wanted some new fresh stuff that falls into that specific premise, to refresh the magazine's lineup a little bit.

Second Brain honestly had it coming, it was trying so hard to follow the SQ formula that the first chapter was literally chapter 1 of Blue Exorcist but with sci-fi powers. Gamma's pretty much one of my favorite series ever though, the ending may have been rushed but it was consistently great from start to finish and the last volume was a perfect example of an author just saying "fuck it, may as well have all the girls get with each other."

Also Kemono Jihen isn't really a battle manga, there's barely any action in it.

hey KJ actually managed to make the top 50 list for the second week

48. Kemono Jihen #3 (12,338 / 33,374)

it's not much but it's an increase and it's the best selling volume so far

so it's something

47. Kemono Jihen #1 (15,137 / 29,655)
28. Kemono Jihen #2 (22,749)

To continue off my sloppy sales chart from last week.

Japanese Comic Ranking, November 6-12

Good to see Kemono Jihen grow a bit and I'm glad that Yuukoku no Moriarty continues to do fairly well.

Looking at Twin Star Exorcists, it seems like it didn't get that much of a boost from the 50 episode anime, if it can't even reach 100k sales easily. Maybe giving the anime 50 episodes when the manga was monthly and only had like 25 chapters when the anime was announced was a bad idea. Volume 13 sold less than volume 12 by around 6.7k copies.

You too? I really like his art as well. (Wonder of Blood Lad ever got an art book?) Guess I have a reason to pay attention to square now.

Oh wow, these are exciting news. The power of Shueisha to nab away authors with succesful works from different publications strikes again.

Cool, Blood Lad was a nice manga, to bad the anime never finished the story. Hope the series does good (also hope it`s not some "x organization has the defeat some type of monsters plaguing humanity, since Square kinda has to many of those) .

Viz must be freaking out right now, they pushed Kenshin return super hard

Sasaki wouldn't shut up for 2 seconds about how he used to be Watsuki editor and how he's working with him on the sequel

Well, since the new Kenshin is on hiatus, that means one slot has opened up for the magazine, which will further help things like Kemono Jihen and Black Torch survive.
