1. Hokuto no Ken
2. Dragon Ball
4. Sket Dance
5. Death Note
Honorable mentions: Barefoot Gen, City Hunter, Kimagure Orange Road, Hikaru no Go, Beelzebub
YYH, Dr. Slump and Death Note are my favorite Jump adaptations. Bakuman also had a good one and Kuroko's is very good, the seasonal format has helped these shows a lot.
Academia has great art and character designs but I'm still waiting for the story to get there. It's okay.
Nobody would read them. This system is the main reason why Marvel and DC stopped trying new things decades ago.
I want to see who plays Bitch-sensei.
Weird design, I'm instantly interested.
Hi everybody, not too long ago I saw an image on a message board which compiled various One Piece facts. One of the facts was that it has been the best selling manga series every year since 1999...
People probably don't bother voting for HxH because they know it's going on hiatus in a few months no matter what they do.
Trigger has an anime 'feel' to begin with, its genre and style might have encouraged a studio to pick it up early. I think it's a good decision, it's early but there's plenty of material for a 13...
The yearly charts don't really show which sold most either though (well, okay, One Piece and Titan :p), because the data is so heavily skewed towards earlier releases. Looking at weekly sales isn't a...
Conan 82 and Magi 20 both released on the same day, and Magi beat it. In the exact same scenario, Magi should have beaten it again unless either it is dropping in popularity or Conan is rising, or if...
Well, I was talking about long-term sales, rather than week 1 sales. Starting its first week lower than Conan means it will most likely leave the chart lower than Conan, unless Conan's chart run is...
If post-anime drops happen it's not unheard of for them to happen immediately after the anime ends, that's how it happened to Reborn. :p
Magi had tons of momentum though. It was outselling Conan...
Magi's selling less than Conan again, now that the anime's over. That's a little disappointing.
I'm a couple pages late for this, but:
Read every week:
Assclass - 9
Nisekoi - 7
Kuroko - 7
Shokugeki - 7
Get caught up in chunks every now and then:
Hunter - 6
Trigger didn't sell too much less than Beelzebub, wow.
Thought Jaco would do better.
There's a lot of room for action in the magazine right now. Reborn, Medaka and Beelzebub all ended in the past year or so, thinning out a lot of the competition. If a new hit action series is going...
That's too bad. This is one of my favorite series right now. Too short is better than too long though.
DGM was selling that much when it was moved, I don't know how well it was polling though.
Agree, it's gotta be interesting. If it does its own thing instead of trying to chase Kuroko or HQ's audience its chances greatly improve.
I'm not making presumptions about the quality of the chapter at all. I'm just saying what it needs to do to succeed. There are only so many slots on a ballot and unless it can can show sports fans...
I don't think it's likely that TWB succeeds. It's competing directly with Kuroko and Haikyuu for votes, it'll have to really distinguish itself to be noticed.
Congratulations to Beelzebub on a nice, long run. It was one of my favorite series in Jump for a long time. Always able to make me laugh, with brisk action mixed in too. I wonder what character the...
That is interesting. Nura went overboard with the tones at times, I think a cleaner look would benefit his style a lot.
Or prequel. Set in the sengoku era.
It's definitely a creepy premise.
A lot of young and growing titles this month, tomorrow should be educational.
Congrats to Koe no Katachi for its good sales. Magi is a real monster.
Stealth Symphony sounds and looks the most interesting to me. I'm interested in Illegal Rare, Shiibashi had some nice art, good action (and cute girls) in Nura but the story really didn't hook me. I...
Magi was slow to catch on. I get the feeling it would have been cancelled, considering how crowded with battle manga Jump's lineup was at the time. NNT is a really Magazine-esque series, I don't know...
In case anyone's interested, sales for tenth volumes of Jump series. A special milestone. :) These figures only account for a volume's run in the top 30, as we don't have 50 places on some of the...
Epic's Akira was colorized as well. Certainly blasphemous, but this was probably its biggest impact on the US comic industry; its digital colors utilized young technology in a beautiful,...
Gintama's sales have fallen a lot over the past couple years.
This looks right up my alley.
I would rather see Akatsuki work with a different writer next time.
For the time being, Haikyuu is outpacing Kuroko. Kuroko was selling 130-150k at this point, while Haikyuu is already selling 200+.
Beautiful facial expressions. The art has sort of a 90s or Takashi Shiina flavor, very stylish. Would like to see him get a series.
I would too. Sket Dance's long anime actually premiered the same season as Toriko, so it's a tie. Spring 2011, what a long time ago!
I don't think they'd give Shokugeki a long series unless they...
Thanks for this, I was trying to find it not too long ago and had no luck. It's interesting to see Bleach nearly in the middle, I would not have guessed it.
Congrats to HQ. I guess it no longer really matters how young a manga is, with the multiple season format becoming more and more common.
It's too bad PSI's sales aren't lining up with its polling. It's reminding me a lot of Jaguar right now. Trigger is on the charts, but it's too low to tell us much. Vol. 3's sales will give us a good...
Generally, stories in serial format spend their entire existence trying to avoid ending so that's why the endings are awful and rushed more often than not. In this format, the ending is not seen as a...
Terra Formars is really impressive. I had no idea it would catch on like it has.
Good point, I didn't consider that. Keeping it limited to just Jump examples, the first volumes of Kuroko and Medaka also didn't make the chart.
First volume sales don't really mean anything. The first volume of Shingeki no Kyojin didn't make the Oricon charts either. Not that World Trigger is ever going to sell a million copies, but just...
Sounds great! I was pretty sure it wouldn't be related to Negima, but it really looks that way now. I think this is a smart idea from Akamatsu. A continuation for Negima fans and a chance for him to...
Kenichi volumes sell around 100-150k before falling off the charts. Those are great sales, but they'd be about middleweight in Jump and probably wouldn't be enough to get it to 50+ volumes. I didn't...
By non-Jump standards, Kenichi does quite well. It's still a valuable asset for Sunday.
It's rare but it has happened. The toy anime Bakugan Battle Brawlers was a flop in Japan but was extended due to its global success. The final season didn't even air in Japan at all.
I'm guessing 400k is probably about the most a manga can hope to sell these days with next to no female following.
