IDK, I think the manga started taking a turn for the worst during this Invasion arc. I loved it when Gantz was...about Gantz. Being in the room and finding out new information as time went on. Loved seeing the characters in their everyday lives etc. And yes, I wanted to see Kato as a leader for at least 3 or 4 missions to revive Kurono and would have liked to see the vampires embrace the team more. Oku built up a character for 1/2 and arc, killed the 2 team leaders than just doesn't do anything with them. On top of that Kurono's death was cheap as hell and pointless, because he came back later that night. It would have been awesome to see the vamps finally put the Gantz suit on.
Such wasted potential for Phase 2. The Invasion arc came way too soon and felt rushed. The best part of the Invasion was when they went back to the Gantz room.
An OVA is just a shorter version of a normal series, right? Fuck that. We need another 40+ episodes. Not half a dozen.
Are there any that go for the length of a full series?
It's the appropriate format for a series like GANTZ if they want to mantain the detailed gore from the manga.
Oh man...i'm so disappointed in Oku for ruining this great manga...
They did alright with the original anime, didn't they?
@xio: the only one I can think of atm was the Hellsing OVA. That one seemed extremely short (though admittedly I've never seen them). edit: actually I just remembered Highschool of the Dead had a 1 episode OVA as well. The quality of the episode I downloaded is absolute dogshit though which is surprising.
Well if OVAs are all about quality then I have nothing against it.. just as long as they don't fuck it up or butcher it in any way.

@GAT: don't worry, it'll all be over soon.
Just gotta try and enjoy the ride.

OVA is just the Original Video Animation, just like the manga. Take hellsing for example: Hellsing TV and Helsing OVA. I heard of some stuff up on twitter a while back that once Hellsing OVA has finished (It now has), Madhouse was gonna have a go with a full Gantz OVA, and after that a berserk OVA. Yeah they'd probably be about an hour each, each episode for each volume. It's the big seinen 3, and those japanese love their Gantz.
The only reason they didn't make a full OVA in the first place and crammed it with fillers and crap, was because at the time Oku was on volume 11; The Shinjuku massacre. It was too graphic and violent to show on TV so they gave it a crappy ending, and cut out a lot of the stuff that happened in the manga.
They kinda butchered the Temple mission in the anime. I was kinda confused when 100 Arms had the personality of that nerdy guy in the anime for no reason. They never show 100 Arms eat his brain.
Also they made the biker a bit too nice.
Ongoing OVAs like Gundam Unicorn or the to-be Ghost in the Shell: Arise look to have stunning production quality. 50-minute long Gantz episodes rendered with care and quality animation like those would be a dream for any Gantz fan.
A 20-minute episode slapped between an intro and outro wouldn't do it justice.
