i have a larger file that is the same animated gif as my current signature, its around 1 megabit in size, i would like to reduce the file size to the limit of 500kb so that i can use it for my signature, but i dont want to reduce the overall size of it if i dont have to
is there another way to reduce the file size of a gif, like lowering the resolution or quality of the file a little bit without reducing the size? , i have adobe fireworks on my computer, but i am not that experienced with the program
Get Photoshop and try.
yes i have PS but i.figured fireworks was a better program for animated gifs because its designed for it
i will try photoshop
I have no idea if it is. Google tutorials or play aroudn with it. All you need to do is reduce the quality, from 256 bits to 56 bits or something.
yea i found a spot to reduce the resolution, but it doesnt reduce the quality it actually reduces the size
Size? x by x? That's resolution, if I recall.
There are as far as I know only 3 methods to reduce the file data size (kb, mb etc.).
- Change amount of different colors used in the Gif.
- Change the ratio the Gif is changing pictures, i.e. remove some of the picture frames.
- Change the actual physical size of the Gif, i.e. 250px / 500px.
The only method you can't use is the last one, the first two on the other hand should work pretty nicely.
So you need to find way to do this, for example you can reduce the amoung of colors by using this website http://www.gifreducer.com/ .
Hope it'll be enough othervice you need to start removing frames in the gif.
if it was 300 kb i could use it as my sig
if anyone can help me this is the gif i want to reduce, i want it to be at least the 200 pixils tall but i want the colors reduced or something so i can use it for my sig on mangahelpers, (so it has to be under 500kb)
How about this? It's around ~450kb and 296x150 Pixel. I also tried 200 and 180 Pixel (height), but the quality was pretty bad when the size hit under 500kb. This is the best compromise for now I think, unless a pro deals with it (I'm a total amateur).

thank you very much, my question has been answered so this thread can be closed
to the staff: this may not be a bad idea for a sticky or a section dedicated to helping people with sigs and avatars, or other art related questions, in fact i see that we have an art section, maybe we could put a sticky thread in one of the art sections about sigs and avatars, like a sig and avatar help section and maybe even awards for the best signature and avatar (like custom self created ones)
