Hope not, that would be kinda dark if his wife and unborn kid were killed back then. I'm kind of curious as well what the test call service hotline is. Is it referring to voicemail or what?
Another thought came to mind as well. Looking at his wife, her and chikage look fairly similar. Perhaps kensei killed his wife and took his child when she was newborn. Just a random thought

Chapter 521 is definitely top 10 of the entire manga...
That was a dark twist for this series, real dark. If his family really is dead, then wow is all I can say. It was set up perfectly too how he made us think it was just another pointless flashback of an event thats already been mentioned xD
it seems so and it shows why chikage's master has a connection with Kensei
i think chikage was given to her by kensei in order to convince her to join the shadow fists
it would be the greatest shock of manga 2013
if tanaka's wife was killed by kensei
i feel sorry for tanaka maybe he was calling for help.
I was totally thrown off by the last page. Like completely 100% surprised. I wonder if the Elder actually knew about this, and if so it's kind of messed up that he didn't do anything about it.
From 1 to Clannad how sad would it be if tanaka's wife and child were dead? Well this chapter was quite nice, tanaka's past was revealed, and a P-P-PLOT TWIST! That was unexpected, I think that tanaka's wife is dead, think about this possible scenario: kensei fights tanaka's master, he dies, her daughter jumps in aaaaaand she's dead. Fin. And that would explain tanaka's obscesion with kensei, well in my case if some sonofa b*tch kills my master and my wife I would definetly go insane and would become a satsujiken. Now what is going to happen, I cant predict the next scenario, probably kenichi is gonna get in the way somehow and stop tanaka from going into the dark side. It seems that the masters are not gonna get in the way this time.
I came to the conclusion that either Kensei killed Tanaka's wife or he feels that he can't face her until he avenges her father.
- Mayu Tanaka wasn't killed, she went to the dark side and now is Kushinada. I think this is unlikely since they don't look very much alike. And, Kushinada is said to be very old. Although the events could somehow explain why Kushinada doesn't trust people.
- Tanaka's wife died, but the daughter lived on (known or unknown to Tanaka) - she is Chikage. In my opinion, Chikage doesn't really look like Kushinada. That would be a nice twist.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed the latest chapters. Finally it's getting some drama again. Can't wait for the next episodes.
I kind of expected something to happen when Kenichi reached for the phone, but it is an unexpected twist, we need more of those in this manga. He was enraged when Kensei kicked his phone, so it's very important to him. Given that people don't die too much here, I'll guess that his wife and child are alive, and that Tanaka is not crazy, but these two scenarios would be the most plausible.
I think its obvious his wife and kid are dead......I hope the old man takes him in.
I thought Tanaka was a lot older...
I guess it means one of those:
- They are lost, and he's unable to cope with the reality. Hence, he pretends (or even actually thinks) they are still alive
- They are not lost (or, one of them) and he is too ashamed to face them/her or talk to them/her.
this is too much to cope it would mean that tanaka lost his wife and child at a teenage age from 17-20 thats sad too sad
I still think there is a pretty good chance that his
exwife and kid are still alive. Tanaka is hesitating against kensei.... I could picture him hesitating if he has to get revenge for his master, even his master would not want him to become a satsujinken considering he was someone that should be fighting alongside ryozampaku so far but on the other hand I really have trouble imagining him hesitating to kill kensei if kensei actually did kill his wife and kid. I guess it is a possible scenario that because his wife would not have wanted him to become a murderer he would hesitate but it is still weird. Overall what we just saw with the cel phone thing makes both scenarios plausible IMO.
