Now you've done it. With Kenpachi vs Tousen fight, that battle gives most flame wars on this forum. Shunsui's win. Why?
Shunsui's shikai was enough to deal with him. Yes, Vaizards took out those wolfs, and Ukitake took Cero machine gun, that Shunsui could dodge and did. He still had bankai that he'd use. We can't be sure about it. Looking at Ichigo's boost while using bankai we can safely assume, that boost is huge. His potential must be huge. I still think Shikai Shunsui>Stark. But then Shunsui dealt with him. Why was he shot by Stark? Because Ukitake was almost killed and he panicked. Then Vaizards came and he wanted to hide from Lisa and wanted them to deal with it, as he doesn't like to fight. In a fair fight, no Ukitake, no stress, full intent to kill, no holding back, using every mean necessary, it's Shunsui's win.
I think Shunsui wins. 1 year ago he and Stark were around the same lvl but not anymore. Based on his peformance during the Quincy attack he's much stronger now than 1 year ago. He was able to fight a released SR ( I don't remember the name of the transformation) with just his shikai and only lost when his master died. Stark sure is strong, but after timeskip Shunsui is on another league (otherwise he wouldn't be CC today)

ppl please stop with your flawed logic (shusui can use bankai) he cant, in this fight because it wasnt shown end of story. there are no what if he could use, he just cant.
dont be mad just because he would lose this fight.
This is one of the toughest to vote. So many 'Unknows' and 'Ifs'. Starkk fought probably two of the strongest captains. While they didn't go all out, Starkk did decent against them. I am tormented to pick a winner. Even fanboyism failed to guide me here.
And I can't stress this enough, but Stark didn't call "the best color", he called the best color he could, there is a difference. Shunsui stated that the MORE of a color you wear, the more damage you. In other words, if someone is wearing all the colors of the rainbow equally, than the most damage they can do is one seventh of the damage a person in one solid color can do. Stark was wearing about 50-60% white. His pants were black, his sleeves and boots were grey. When shunsui removed his haori and was in all black, calling black, THAT is an example of "the best color".
Prior to Ukitake's intervention, there is no solid ground to say one was really doing better than the other. No one took damage. Shunsui attacked a few times, Stark avoided, Stark counter attacked, Shunsui avoided UP UNTIL Ukitake coming in. Shunsui looked like he wasn't gonna dodge those ceros for much longer.
We know that two of the game Shunsui has, Stark has no problem working around with his guns and speed, which also shows that he can use his guns within the game, and no reason why he can't use the wolves. Even if the effect of the ceros and wolves is a lot less should the color game come into play, Stark's strength is spammability, if his attacks are reduced to 30%, then he just has to shoot two more ceros/have two more wolves attack for every one.
IMO, I do think this fight is just too close to come to a 100% certainty, but voting Stark since I'm sure Shunsui will get plenty of votes on CC title alone.
Voted Starrk as well. Before their second round, Starrk had the slight advantage over Shunsui and still wasn't fighting using all of his techniques. After Shunsui returned though, Starrk decided that logic was for chumps and fought with swords instead of his guns and his wolves. So while Shunsui and his swords were finally cooperating and fighting with all of their strength, Starrk just lost all resolve to actually fight intelligently and with some sort of focus.
I think Starrk would actually put up a better performance than he did in the actual story.
It's also worth noting that he wasn't fighting a Volstandig SR. Grimaniel appears to be a momentary transformation, and he got a solid hit in on Shunsui when it was active. However, he didn't remain that way, so saying that Shunsui actually fought a "released" SR is inaccurate.
Also, the argument of him being the CC is meaningless. It's a title that doesn't carry an inherent level of power. Someone had to take it and he was (apparently) the most well-suited of the bunch. Yama is still well beyond him regardless of their identical positions. Ikkaku could have also held a Captaincy position had he chosen to, would you say that he's a Captain, and therefore can hang with the other Captains? Of course not. There's a vacant position, and it was filled by someone inferior.
