Arakawa Naoshi is the author of other works such as Sayonara Football and Tsumetai Kousha no Toki wa Todomaru.
Arima Kousei was intensively groomed by his mother into piano virtuoso. He dominated the number one rank among children pianists. Yet, his stardom came to a halt after a tragedy, but his influence as a piano virtuoso left a strong impression on many. As Arima Kousei degenerates into a shadow, the path of music would not let Arima Kousei walk away so easily. His meeting with the wild and untempered Miyazono Kaori forces Arima Kousei to overcome his past in order to live.
Arakawa Naoshi's style and character design is good.
Arima Kousei: a former pianist child-prodigy. The death of his mom created much trauma for Arima Kousei rendering him unable to play the piano.
Miyazono Kaori: a violinist playing as she pleases. She dates Arima Kousei's friend, Watari.
Tsubaki: A childhood friend of Arima Kousei.
Watari: A skilled athlete who dates Kaori.
A very tragic story of a piano prodigy who overcomes his psychological trauma in order to walk the path of a musician. He is forced back into the music world by the girl Miyazono Kaori. Through her influence, Arima Kousei gradually makes his return at the anticipation of his former rivals.
This is a very well written manga even if it is cliche at the end. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy slice-of-life manga.
