Based on a Manga: Haikyuu!!
A chance event triggered Shouyou Hinata's love for volleyball. His club had no members, but somehow persevered and finally made it into its very first and final regular match of middle school, where it was steamrolled by Tobio Kageyama, a superstar player known as "King of the Court." Vowing revenge, Hinata applied to the Karasuno High School volleyball club... only to come face-to-face with his hated rival, Kageyama!
The reception of Haikyuu!! episode 1 on both twitter and 2ch was absolutely fantastic
Springs best anime, that Oikawa, Kageyama, Kuroo, Kenma, Hinata, Tsuki!

Strongest episode 1 of the season and even having know the material beforehand, it was really thrilling and exciting to make it span this episode. Had to really feel for the country team of amateurs coming to the big tournament to try to give it their all. I loved how they did band around their captain and even recognizing their own lack of abilities felt good enough to want to try to do their best and help him score if not to win. Koji and the other's tears, and then Hinata always saying dont mind and making them not feel bad too.
There were lots of nice little touches with king Kageyama, the sometimes robe appearing or jacket moving and everyone giving him that title. And then though grumpy, couldnt ever feel bad since he was truly the kind of serious player on their team and Hinata on the other.
They kept the volleyball explanations too, one of the best parts of sports series when they explain stuff in a real and competent manner.
Haikyu!! ep 1 was like the perfect adaptation of a jump title for an episode 1, exciting, great music, perfect pace, and focused with great animation. So many jpn tweets during its airing. I cant wait to see if it eventually leads to huge sales for the series and high anime sales at tome point too. Personally more merchandise with differents arts for me to buy too...
I basically watch every Jump anime out there and normally the adaptations are pretty standard, but I absolutely loved this first episode! Amazing quality too! Love how Furudate's style is captured animated! Lovely stuff!
When a great animation and a great manga come together something epic born.
The best first episode for me until now, perfect adaptation in all aspects. That first match was not full of awesome jumps by Hinata, but only one proves that the anime will make a great job animating his fantastic jumps. The pace was smooth and the episode ended in the right moment; it covered the first chapter of the manga if I'm not wrong.
Looking forward for the next episodes.

Well that was a good first episode. The art is great and the animation looked splendid too. Thanks to the haircut of the two rivals it reminds me of Yowamushi though...
Songs are good and well Volleyball is certainly not boring.
Could be a great show.
First Yowamushi and now Haikyuu; I guess that I'm revaluating sports anime.
Definitely I must watch and I laughed so hard when Shoyo entered in the gym and saw the one who he should have defeated in the future. XD
I suppose their being in the same team will make things more difficult, but also more interesting and funny.
Good first episode, volleyball never looked so cool to me. The main char is passionate and unbreakable but I found him a bit creepy at times, as expected of IG the animation is excellent. Great OP and Ed
I really liked the first episode... I like (I remember names only after few eppisodes so...) that the guys with orange hair is so enthusiastic about everything \o/ Though, I did not like when he started to cry after the tournament on the stairs, He seemed to be childish there ... I was surprised that I actually like the anime cuzz I never really found volley interesting nor anything ... Buuuut I found out that I like sports animes #KurokocchiFTW!
"It turns me on when she ignores me"
Great episode, and I thought the captain would be a softy, his actions surprised me. I like all the members already, Kageyama just wants the spotlight.
He has to be like that. Hinata and Kageyama have an incredible potential together, but if they continue fighting, they will just mess up everything.Quote:
Very good episode, they are making a great adaptation so far.
Kiyoko is quite the babe if I may say so.
Hinata and Kageyama behave like little children. Rivalry is okay but this is kinda annoying... You're in the same team damn it... <.< Although thanks to that they will be great friends in the future I assume.
Every member we saw so far was just awesome. The captains creepy hair and the "smile" of the white haired guy while closing the door... Comedy gold.
If they continue like that I might start to read the Manga.
The face that the dude in the team made when Tanaka said "I love when she ignores me", was priceless. XD
Really liked this episode and so far I'm liking all the characters in the team (especially Kyoko. ).
I do wonder though if they will be able to defeat their Senpai......my experience tells me that they won't.
