I sure hope there are more people who've seen the movie and want to discuss this, I could imagine this work is quite... polarizing.
Thought I'd chime in here with my thoughts about the 3rd movie... saw it in theatre back in December, and rewatched it again when the BD arrived... and since I appreciate more extended discussion rather than short simple comments. So, for my personal opinion...

I assume by now we can discuss things without using spoiler tags, no?
I didn't notice this thread, I made a reply at the old Madoka TV series thread instead. But anyway, this third movie hit me in a surprising way. This is Homura's movie, and from the TV series I always have the impression that Homura is someone who can understand Madoka and can support her. So when she actually "bites" and "rebels" to Madoka is a surprise.
I somehow share the view Doraku has about this being possible alternate ending instead of a direct sequel, mainly because I hate to see Madoka's sacrifices become so useless. It somehow makes sense for me to see Homura breaks when she lets all her feelings surfaced, but I wish this had not happen.
Like the rest of you, I can see that it does make sense... but I wish it didn't happen.
This could flow into a discussion of what we find enjoyable/interesting/etc. in entertainment... these days I for one am actually somewhat wishing for the simpler days when good vs evil were simple and well defined. Probably as a result of life getting more complicated over the years.
But that probably should be another thread :P.
