Ok so as others have said before, even if Togashi were to return RIGHT NOW
the anime WILL catch up to where the manga is which means that it would
not have anymore source material to work with for a while.
This can mean two things
1. The anime ends
Let's talk about the 2nd option.
There's two ways this can be done.
1. Next arc can be (somehow) extended with filler episodes to make the arc
longer than it would normally be if played straight
2. Next arc is played straight but afterwards we get filler seasons
which are just completely made up.
The bad thing about option 1 is it could potentially ruin the pacing, characterization, etc.
The good thing about option 1 is that it allows more exploration
of characters, events, and what not that were only briefly touched
upon in the manga.
The bad thing about option 2 is that we would get HxH characters
in a particularly not HxH story. In other words it would feel like fan service.
That good thing about option 2 is that it would prevent the next arc from
feeling "tainted" or "ruined".
What do guys think?
Between options 1 and 2 which would you prefer?
If option 1 then what would you like to see more exploration of within the next arc?
If option 2 then what what would be a good story for a HxH filler?
Now I'm sure a lot of y'all will say neither and just want the anime to end
and I can understand that. Nobody wants to see HxH decay into rot.
Obviously we all want Togashi to return asap and most of us love the anime
and would miss it if it ended. But I think there's pretty simple solution
that could please both the fans and probably even Togashi himself.
Have Togashi write the fillers.
Then while the fillers air Togashi releases new chapters.
This would work particularly well with a time skip.
Yeah some will say that it's not still canon because it wasn't in the manga
but hey if it's written by Togashi and it's got that HxH quality then I'm game.
This is what real Hunting is all about.
Togashi making fillers doesn't really make sense, as he could use that same time to go on with the main story then.
I'd rather have HxH end on the last arc as a masterpiece before it gets tainted.
For the option 2 I would only accept fillers about Kurapika and Leorio's moments during their bus trip, especially Leorio's everyday life . But it's too good to be true. They just have to end it at chapter 339. Togashi needs to come back before the end or just after...
Now he doesn't have to write EVERYTHING for the filler but
he could give a sorta outline of what should happen
and then give his approval to the writing staff.
Madhouse would do the "heavy lifting" and Togashi
would be there to give direction and make sure
it doesn't stray from his vision.
Yes it's more work...but at the same time
it would take a lot of the pressure off of Togashi.
Though I'd figure everyone would go for the "just end it" option.
Well I can sympathize with that (I don't want to get ruined either)
but still I thought it be fun to at least explore where FILLER X FILLER
I mean to be honest if we got more stuff like Young Kite
I would DEFINITELY keep watching. Filler or not that was cool.
(Though I consider it semi-filler since it was alluded to in the manga)
No. Just end it at 339 and preserve it as a masterpiece forever. I would've been happy for the manga to end there even.
Alright no more "just end the anime" posts.
From now on, pretend you are Madhouse/Togashi and you know the anime
is gonna catch up but you owe lots of money to the mafia. You need to keep
the show going...
How do you do it?
C'mon folks. I'm bored here. Let's talk HxH!
Alright I like Demonspeed's idea of Leorio and Kurapika's life during their "bus trip".
Specifically...How the heck did Leorio get his nen ability?
Or what the heck happened to the Nostrade family?
You could do a whole filler season or two right there.
Ging's Hunter Exam, Chrollo's childhood or an arc dedicated to the Troupe actions, Hisoka's childhood until he named his ability Bungee Gum, Gyro's ascension after killing his father, an arc about the daily lives of the Zoldyck family including Maha .
Even if there's someplace inside of me wants a continuation, the first movie gave a bad taste in my mouth for what the studio and writers would do on their own and doesn't encourage the idea of anime-only materials later on.
Besides the mere fact that he gave his approval to the anime'
shows that at least on some level he's already involved.
But I can understand wanting Togashi to stay focus
on the manga. I wouldn't the manga to suffer
because Togashi has too much on his plate.
That all said, I don't think it would too much for Togashi.
The lowest amount of effort required to be a mangaka seems to be too much for Togashi these days...
the manga CANNOT END until kurapika's vengeance against the spiders is completed
but i do not think CL or anyone else of the PT has been defeated since the yorknew arc.....

he knows what hes doing, i sense that we will get one more great arc out of him

i really dont think i like the idea of filler in HXH, in fact i pretty much hate ALL FILLER regardless of the anime/manga
gintama is one of the FEW exceptions where the filler is watchable, and that is because it is PURELY a comedy, so the filler vs the canon is not a huge difference

and the glorious return of kurapika would be epic
i wonder how much stronger he has gotten....
I know that you've stated repeatedly that you don't want anymore posts like these, but even imagining a possible FillerXFiller makes me feel sick. After years and years into this anime thing, I've come to learn that anime producers CANNOT do extended filler segments to save their own mothers.
And picturing Togashi giving any sort of input is completely unrealistic. Even if he was a normal mangaka it would be a stretch, but considering he's too lazy to wrive even for the manga, it's impossible. Actually, even if he COULD, I'd rather he didn't and use that time to pump out some more manga.
