From what Madara was talking about, it was due to his chakra that kept him alive for so long.
I suppose that's the testament of Madara's chakra and abilities.
I guess that's the 17453526th abilities of the Uchiha. They have a strong chakra, so they live long. And the ones who have particularly strong chakra live VERY long.

The case of Madara's longevity is also attributed his desire for gaining power and that must be why even the Kyuubi said that Madara's chakra was cursed or so. So maybe the long life is actually a curse.
I think Kishi just couldn't come up with a plausible reason for him to be alive for soo long that he had to make that crap up lol if strong chakra is the case then the Rikidou senin should be around living somewhere at the age of 397 lol
I don't think it has anything to do with his chakra. I think he used some method to stay alive so long, and he found that method because of this strength and will to continue becoming stronger, like Orochimaru. WHO by the way, did say that he completed his immortality jutsu AFTER he joined Akatsuki. He probably figured out the way to do it having seen the methods the other Akatsuki members used. I mean, Madara isn't even "old". *shrug*
Well, at least I think Madara's way is much nicer than Kakuzu's way. That would be funny if Madara's true form was just a giant eyeball.
Hidan can not die from mortal wounds but we don't know if his age won't do the job
SASORI-Sama(The puppet guy) his body might not get old but that dosen't keep his core from decaying
Kakuzu(the heart stealer) he could have only a young body but still age also he never claimed he had immortality just that it would be hard to kill him 100% for sure if anyone ever tried which it was
Orochimaru is the worst of all he CAN change bodies after 3 years and stay in those bodies for a few weeks longer if needed but if he dosen't get out after that time him and that body will decay and die together and the biggest flaw in "immortality" it can be defeated four ways
1.the way Sasuke did it, overwhelming Orochimaru when he attempted to invade his body
2.locking up Orchimaru till he and his body die(in a completely box like cell)
3.Killing orchimaru in the body he's currently in
4.the way he TRULY died use a jutsu or weapon that completely kills the soul of a person
Mandara is actual probably the weakest example of all this he most likely traded bodies for majorly reduced physical strength and chakra reserves(this information comes from what Itachi said about excatly that fact that the Mandara Uchiha he knows is weaker)

Didn't Kakuzu say that there's no such thing as immortality?
Yup he said it (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/336/04/).
So far we know of the "immortals", I think Kakuzu was the one closest to real immortality.
Maybe madara is immortal because of well I don’t now his space/time jitsu he might be able to manipulate time around him so he doesn’t age and what not. I think the worst immortality jitsu has to go to orochimaru I mean if the body rejected him and he couldn’t find a new vessel ten he would’ve been screwed
yes orochimaru's methid is the most stupid one. so wat if he can have a 20 year old body for 2.5 years then feel like shit for 0.5 of a year and being so vulnerable during that time.
but i reckon kazuku has the best method realli, he admits that by acquiring more hearts he can live longer so wat happens if he steals like 100 hearts?
