jeez... I didn't realize there were so many hard-hitters from the shoujo department untill after looking at the list... (There are actually 4 series which I follow from time to time).
Toriko's sales is kinda bad... I mean I assume they took the average of Vol.01 and 02? It sold less than Binbou-Gami for crying out loud...
Reborn and ES21 were decent, but didn't manage to beat a first tier Shoujo series like Kimi ni Todoke...

Gah....how I hate Shoujo....
I assume Toriko is low due to the rumored shortage of supply.
And the basketball manga looks cool too. I hope it isn't Bokkesan who fails. I love Nishi.
Lol, i have only read on shojo title on there (SDC), anyways glad YGO:GX sold well, i feel a little bad for Tokrio but didn't it initially do very well? like sold out and had to reprint? was the first printing so low?
That's what poped to my mind at first.
But here's the thing... I would assume they'd have more first print for Toriko than Binbou-Gami... and yet Binbou-Gami ranked higher than Toriko...?
Why do people think Toriko's vol. 1/2 sales average was bad? Do you know how hard it is for a vol. 1 of any shonen to even break in to the top 20? I say it's a great run for it...but at the same time Binbougami being higher shows it may be a hit as well.
Can't blame a shortage of copies on Toriko's poor performance; Shueisha had three weeks to get more copies out there. They fell out of the top thirty after one week. BTW: At the end of a chapter of the World God Only Knows the same message appeared. The "sold out of the first pressing" could just be a marketing line.

I know, which is why I stated Kimi being a first-tier series (as matter of fact, I'd put it as #1 for Betsu-Margaret series)
(I'm a huge fan of Kimi Even worked on one of the Chinese scanlation group for a while)
As for it being better than Naruto... I wouldn't say that to be honest (though NANA would eat Naruto alive if you ask me... lol)
Regarding Toriko... it's just annoying to see it behind Binbou-gami. And why Shueisha would have the same amount of first prints (or even less) compare to a new Jump SQ series is beyond me.
Maybe there trying to build interest for volume three and will triple sales in February. :/
(Had to get that preemptive strike in on Kimi's behalf: I'm already prepared for ten people who haven't read it to bemoan the fact that it's ahead of two Jump series )
Hey guys, how well did Gintama's first volume sell?
Not sure at the time of its release, but it's sold more than one million now. That's HUGE.
It was out in April 2004... I've just checked the first print ranking archive, and Gintama 01 didn't get into the top 20 for that month...
However, DeathNote 01 was #7, beating Busou Renkin 02
Komi is back with another oneshot in Issue 4-5.
this source (which has nice figures for the sales of Jump mangas), Gintama's first volume was only released at 30,000 copies initially... Jump editors obviously didn't expect it to become a hit^^;
