how you ask: that giant gray robot sends people out to go do good deeds for points, get 100 points and you get a sticker of a heart, btw the grey robot's name is... GANTZ.
this might explain how the black sphere ended up being given the nickname gantz by a tokyo gantzer from long ago.
Thats crazy. I always wondered why Nishi said it was always called that by someone else.
there's info on wikipediea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganbare!!_Robokon
What the HELL, are you serious. Where did you find out about this
Very interesting. Also of note is the fact that Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of the original Gantz TV series, was a pioneer in the Seinen Manga field, and was the creator of the Kamen Rider series, about a young man named Takeshi.
Other trivia: There really is an actress/singer in Tokyo named Reika Hashimoto who starred in the movie "Survive Style" as a wife whose husband kept killing her, but she wouldn't stay dead.
"Kill Bill" is also based on a real-life Japanese actress who is a fan of the Gantz series.
Nishi may also be named after a movie star, Nishi Yoichiro, one of the stars of a Japanese version of the movie "Die Hard", called Howaitoauto. Oku is a big fan of "Die Hard".
I looked through the kill bill credits and found a character called boss tanaka(the tanaka mission was probably written way before kill bill though)
The actual connection to "Kill Bill", the movie, is that "Kill Bill", the character is based on Japanese actress Chiaki Kuriyama. She played as Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill volume 1.

I found out about it on this great site called gantzotaku.com it's in french though so you might have trouble navigating it and make sure you click on "version flash" on the splash page, also almost all the gantz characters are based off of famous people: http://www.gantzotaku.com/ressemblances4.fr.1.html, http://www.gantzotaku.com/ressemblances5.fr.1.html, there was more stuff but the site keeps moving stuff around so I can't find it right now.
