Zetman is somewhat similar...
They aren't similar in any way I can explain, but I like Vagabond. It's probably my 2nd favorite series of all time.
The original Battle Royale was great, but the 2nd series sucks.
Psyren is like a less bloody, tamed down version of Gantz, even down to most of the rules, but the missions take place in the future, and the players are given psychic powers like Cherry's instead of weapons.
Ichi the Killer is like a prototype for Nishi. If you think Nishi is a great character, you'll love it. But it's EXTREMELY graphic; it makes the gore in Gantz look tame.
7 seeds is about 5 groups of teenagers who have been revived as a last, desperate hope to insure Mankind's survival after the end of civilization. One group knows what's going on, the other 4 don't. It's a story of survival and how people act in the absence of authority or rules, and it looks like it might be pretty interesting.
I agree, the first Battle Royale was genius; I need to read the novel sometime.
I can't bring myself to read the second series..
The first ended in a way that kind of wrapped things up, IMO.
And I've given thought to reading Ichi.
Is it scanlated?
I'll check out some of the other ones as well.
In the beginning a lot of people kept talking about the similarities between Psyren and Gantz, but the manga has developed a lot that the similarities are now minimal. Basically what they both have in common is the fact that the Drifters (owners of Psyren calling cards, the Gantzers in this series) are sent to the world of Psyren and have to reach a phone booth whilst avoiding dangers. Every time a round is finished, the points in the calling cards decrease, eventually reaching zero and freeing the Drifters.
I agree about Battle Royale. I loved it/also highly recomend it.
There is one called doubt, a group of people wake up, in an unknown building and get killed one by one, then there is suicide island where a group of people, that have no reason to live and signed some form, they are dumped onto an island to commit suicide basically, but some choose to live instead and there`s no laws or anything, so the women get raped like 2nd chapter.
Duds Hunt is kind of simlair...
The story is about a young guy who is bored with his life and job and an online friend recommends him to play a game called 'Duds Hunt'.
The only downside is that its only a one shot.
Bokurano is kinda similar in how the kids in the series are forced to fight aliens (alien robots).
if @ georgemarvin - says Vagabond it's good, that mean it got to be good ^_^
Yeah. If you are a art junkie like me, Vagabond is where it's at.
-Bokurano (a lot like Gantz but more mechs)
-Battle Royale (game were people kill each other)
-Dud's Hunt (ditto)
-Doubt (ditto, sort of)
-Zero One (oku's previous manga, kid who tries to get a team together to fight in a videogame tournament)
-Reset (a game starts killing people)
-NaruTaru (haven't read yet but same manga-ka as bokurano)
-Domu (manga that made seinen what it is today)
-Parasite (kid has to fight aliens)
-Freesia (hired avengers are payed to kill the person they're hired to in a small area)
-Dawn Chilly Hands (kid is sent out to fight zombies)
-High School of the Dead (ditto, kinda)
-Blue Heaven (a murderer is set loose on a cruise ship and everyone fights to survive)
-Golgo13 (cause this is who Togo is based off)
stay away from Psyren, in my opinion it's the worst manga ever, it makes me cringe whenever I see it in the same post as Gantz.

I also forgot the most similar manga/anime to gantz there is, it`s called red garden, it`s about 4 women that have woke up and see butterflies flying everywhere, the butterflies lead them to a woman named lula who tells them they died and they have new bodies, but there bodies are hers now, and for them to not disappear they have to kill monsters and if they die in the battle they die for real, and the have to get this book to go free, but they will get there memories erased. Seriously this is gantz!
