WSJ Pirate Weekly Shonen Jump [2015] - Discussion and TOC Talk

    What is the ToC ranking?
ToC stands for Table of Contents. It's found on the last page of every issue of WSJ, but more importantly, the order the series appear in on the ToC is closely related to the popularity of the series. This is determined by polling the readers; there is a polling postcard in every issue of WSJ.

    - For the 2nd-8th chapters, TOC is already decided, though it could change depends on readers' ranking.
    - The TOC is affected by the popularity of 8 chapter ago.
    - Shueisha's aiming their main target as elementary and junior high school students, thus, their votes weigh probably more than others (fangirls).

Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 5

Given the fact that Gintama's gotten another anime despite its sales going down for so long, I'm not gonna rule anything out. Though usually a series with declining sales won't get more anime, I think if a series as a franchise does well enough they may still do it. Also, consider that there's only like 5 long-running series in Jump now. Plus Bleach, Nisekoi, and Ansatsu could all end soon.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 9

I think Gintama got another anime because its anime franchise is doing really well. I don't know how popular it is exactly though but I know a lot of people follow Gintama by only watching the anime and buying the home version afterwards.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2014] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 9

Oh a new thread? I wonder if I should return....

But yeah. I kind of think Gintama's sales focus is split into two unlike other adaptations. It's one of those rare cases where the anime is much more popular than the manga, what with the second movie selling really well and the DVD's/ Blu rays doing nicely as well. At this point I feel like even if the manga sales were utter crap, if the anime continues to pull the numbers it has they'd keep making more anime. That and it feels like the series is slowly wrapping up so this might be the last Gintama anime anyway.

The end of Naruto kind of took me by surprise. I knew it was about to end, but then they said it would be in a few weeks. So, you never know. At any time they can announce that Bleach (or AssClass, or Gintama, or whatever) will end in a month. Let's pray. LOL

Where did this agony come from? If they have to end, they will end, period.

    Ouch @ Toriko.
Well, I did say that once the anime ends, the ranks will drop as well as the sales. Unfortunate since I'm liking it now.

And well, it's ranks haven't been good at all. It's been ranked 8th or 9th about 4-5 times since Issue #1. If Toriko's sales keep declining, then it will be in trouble. I guess it has about another year before it reaches that point, if it keeps following the current pattern.

The Toriko manga definitely isn't going anywhere anytime soon. However I highly doubt it'll get another anime. It's anime ended with an anime original ending that changed several key things from the manga. A new anime would need to either be a reboot, or start with some rather messy retcons or more anime original material, just to get back to the point where it could continue adapting the manga. Not a task any studio is going to be eager to jump at.

Or they could go the Kuroshitsuji route with the just "Ok, forget we did an anime-only ending. We're just gonna do the next arc of the manga now."

Didn't they end Toriko anime because it was catching up with the manga? Apprently, there was no reason to cancel it since it appeared in the top 10 of audience sometimes.

It was one of the top-rated anime every week. It probably ended because sales were down and the movie didn't do that well. (The Gintama movie did better and was on fewer screens. Though they stuck Gintama and Toriko on at the same time up against Kaze Tachinu for some reason. Dunno what their strategy was with all that.)

It wasn't sometimes it was all the time(The anime started not appearing regularly in the Top 10 when it went to Original material). They ended the anime not because of what Toriko was doing, but because they wanted Dragon Ball Kai Bu Saga. In reality Toriko went as a substitute of Dragon Ball Kai, Toei was already pondering returning Dragon Ball. Because you know, Dragon Ball is their biggest franchise before One Piece. Pumping Dragon Ball to newest generations and finally ending the adaptation of Z would give more money to them, and let people happier, than continue with Toriko.

Now the question is, will they return with Toriko? Even though they made an original ending? :S Hard question :S, but given that the voice actors and some staff in the company talked about hoping that the anime returns is a good indicative, though they don't have any real force on the matter.

Also about people talking that Toriko is doing bad in the rankings of 2015, here are they:
    - >7,3, 9, 6, 1, 8, 9, 3, 6, 4
7.5(round being 8) is the middle position most of the time! So you have 3 positions right below the middle, 3 positions right above the middle, 4 positions in the Top 5!
In this one it will be in 11th position from 15 positions(14 not counting Isobe!). Is the worst position in 2015, but not only we are in the beginning phase of new titles, that in the beginning will have always good unranked positions, but is also just 1 instance, it can very well mean nothing, in reality it probably doesn't mean nothing.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2015] - Discussion and TOC Talk

New thread, so I'm going to post this again.
Please keep in mind, that this is only a rough basis for success so pointlessly debating the semantics and definition of the word "success" is pointless.

They could put Toriko in another time of the day (or moning if possible)... End a successful series to start a successful series is nonsense. Maintain both and earn more money would be the best choice. O.o

Toriko is not going that bad indeed, people are exaggerating hard here. It is going worse than before? Yes, but it is far from cancelation. One bad position and people are already speculating the end of the manga. Apparently, they don't remember of Reborn, NuraMago, Beelzebub...
