To be serious for two seconds, If I may add a little answer before xi0's...
I believe that it's not only eyecandy, but also high quality earcandy and soulcandy. The latter might not function with everyone though, since some people simply won't resonate with the kind of character that Gosling plays. The rest of the cast/characters is pretty good and well depicted too. Be wary that it can be very slow at times, and that the OST seems a little silent at times as well (in the theater, it proved to be a hassle). Anyway, it was as good as any Refn movie (if you saw the Pusher Trilogy, it's a kinda the same feeling, except in a more classy/Hollywood-ish environment), and maybe slightly better thanks to the marvelous OST. Imho of course.

Don't you want to pinch his cheeks?
He's 20. I'm not a pedo!
But seriously, it's a fantastic movie. The type of character he plays, the gravitas...just marvelous. Soundtrack is amazing, cinematography is amazing, acting is amazing...nearly a masterpiece IMO.

I don't know if I've given it that much thought...but I always liked the type of character he portrays - the selflessness, the hidden rage
And he can move his hips very well.
