Nowadays, it is obvious some users of this forum have had complaints about the recent development of the manga: lack of Naruto development, too much sharingan-Uchiha-Sasuke and his power-ups, part I characters have been forgotten, almost nothing about Senju, etc. Also I have read some posts which said they used to like Naruto (Part I) and now they dislike or hate Naruto (Part II). It is understandable their thinking because I also have stopped reading some mangas because the story loose their purpose as the years pass, they became extremely boring but in this case I dont feel that way.
I started reading Naruto since Pain´s arc, almost at the end of it. I am not going to lie, at first I wasnt interested (anything) about Naruto but I gave it an opportunity and I began to read it since Part I. The story caught me immediately and look I am here with you week through week trying to understand Kishi´s twisted mind.
I cant judge really which part I like the most because they are completely different, specially the story, even though now I find more interesting Part II. Speaking in general I would say I like both of them, they are special in their way. IMO.
And, which part of Naruto do you like the most? which is the best in your opinion?
I like both arcs. Arc 1 has the originality and innocence of a new manga wich i like, and arc 2 contains many background stories and lore surrounding the ninja from part 1.
I am aware that part 2 isnt as good as i hoped, but its worth it due to all the background information about characters that are given.
haha....i am the first to vote part 2 and i might end up being the only one to do so.
but i really prefer the part 2 over part 1,because:
1.part 2 is different from part 1,if things would've continued the same way in part 1,i would've stopped reading a long time ago(like OP for me)
2.i think one of the main reasons ppl prefer part 1 is because many of the side characters there like neji and lee were high on the ppl's fav list.while i liked them,i like part 2 side characters more or at least as much, like elder chyo, deidara, hidan, shiakamaru(his improvement),gaara (his new personality),pain, madara, killerB, danzo, recent rk and recent sakura...and of course one of the most well developed character in entire series Sai.
3.i liked the parallelism between naruto and sasuke very much.
4.more background, and history as well as expansion of focus beyond konoha and more interesting politics.
5.that i really can feel how impossible the hero's goal is here in part2,usually the best 'impossible' quest that shonen mangakas come up for their main character/hero is some 'unbeatable' 'super-strong' villain....but naruto's quest feels much more impossible and intricate than that.so i am interested in it.
There's no contest: Part I. Part I has its faults, and I feel many people tend to overrate it. Nevertheless, when compared to Part II, Part I at least has a coherent storyline. Also, unlike Part II, Part I isn't filled with Mary sueism, deus ex machina, plot holes, inconsistant characterizations, bad pacing, and flawed morality lessons (among other things) like they're going out of style. I can't fathom the reasons for Part II's mediocre writing. Everything began falling apart by the end of the Gaara Arc.
Part 1 to me anyway, was very very good. The Wave Country Arc till this day is the best arc in the manga IMO.
However, I can connect with the characters much more in Part 2, because they are more mature and what not. Part 1 was about a bunch of pre-teens, Part 2 brings in bigger issues, and more complex characters. Also, the things that happened felt much more "epic".
Highlights from both:
Part 1: The Entire Wave Country Arc
: Lee vs. Gaara
: Sarturobi vs. Orochimaru
: Naruto vs. Sasuke
Part 2: Asuma's Death and Shikamaru's Revenge
: Jiraiya's Death
: Itachi's Death and revelations
: Naruto goes 4 tails
: Sasuke at the Kage Summit, and then Sasuke vs. Danzou
IMO, Part I "feels" like the culmination of a vision. Kishi set out to do something and created a wonderful story. Part II feels like Kishi is just spamming out crap, that might be connected to a lost vision, to keep the manga alive until he can find his bearings. His compass is broken and he might starve off alone in the woods somewhere if he doesn't find his way.
I like both parts...becuz I read it for the story...the story which unfolds presents us a fantasy world in which is a good feeling to sink every weekend...these discussion about plot holes, deus ex machinas whatever are just part of the criticism, discussion that all stories get...
Basically I like Naruto a lot...
Personally I prefer Part 2 then Part 1. I feel that Part 2 has a "proper" storyline whereas Part 1 never had. Part I was just the basis, the introduction to jutsu and characters whereas Part 2 is where all the main shit has happened. All the main revelations has happened in Part 2, the story has gotten darker and there really is a actual "plot" in Part 2(collection of Bijuu's), characters have matured etc.
Part 1 mainly consisted of everything happening inside Konoha. In Part 2, it felt like everyone was involved in the story due to the Bijuu being captured. The story has really deepened in Part 2, it's not like a kids story as it was in Part 1.
50% of Part 1 was the Chuunin exams, which consisted of just random fighting matches. When you look back now, it does't have anything to do with the proper storyline now. That's what I mean, never had a proper plot.
Part II was a whole load of pure fail for the first two arcs. I considered dropping the manga after the retrieve Sasuke arc ended with Naruto and Sakura crying. Picked it up again when everyone said that Hidan and Kakuzu were kickass, and Part II's quality went through the roof after that. The Pain Invasion was probably the peak for Part II, though I'm not saying that the current arc is bad, its still pretty good. Part II got progressively better as things went along thank god
Part I. Naruto was a complete idiot and very annoying but he had way more fights may using the fox but it was mainly focused on Naruto and team 7. The Naruto fights were very predictable ( except battle at the valley of the end). Each character had a major development at the end (except Ten ten, hanita and sakura)
Part II started off slow Naruto had no progress, Sasuke was over kill and the fights were slow. It wasn't until Naruto's wind training that the series start to take a turn because they get more into advance training more advance fights jounin or Kage matches, advance jutsu's more into the past. I think that Kish took some away from what Naruto was but he is replacing it with progress. Now there is almost a surprise in every other chapter.
All in all I like Part II because of the major development. many manga's I read don't have nearly as much development and surprises as Naruto part II.
Both parts are packed full of shonen cliches, both are better than average action series but not near the top tier. The highlights from part II are better (rescue Gaara, Immortals, and Pain Invasion arcs) but the bad parts are worse. Both parts have great art, hard to judge. Part I had to much stretching. The Sasuke rescue arc was garbage, the Chunin exam lasted way to long. Kishi's writing comes and goes during both parts: sometimes great, sometimes mediocre. I call it a draw.
Part II, for sure. It's more deeph and complex.
I like both parts, and I don't think one is better in any way than the other because I view it as a whole, and honestly, other than fundamental gripes I have about the story as a whole, I don't particularly dislike much of anything. Sure there are elements of the story recently that I wasn't fond of, but it doesn't change my opinion as a whole because those elements have yet to unfold fully, so my judgment of them is premature. My opinion of the story isn't changed because of my dislike of certain characters or certain things happening in a way that I don't care for because it is the same with every story I have ever bothered to read, and until the very last page my opinion probably will not change because if I really did not enjoy reading it, I wouldn't bother getting to the end because that would be huge waste of time.
And even if the ending is made of fail, I think I would still say that I loved the story, hated the end. Example #1: 666 Satan.
I think Kishimoto ran out of ideas after sasuke killed itachi. you see, he never planned on what he would do after that, so hes started pulling shit out of his ass now.
between part 1 and part 2, there are way too many inconsistencies. And hes not good at juggling his chars, they have bad developments and the plots always run crooked.
I preferred part 1; in part 2, he pulled too much crap out of his ass.
