Yeah, I got the group Japanzai to continue scanlating it. They're working on V14 now and seem like they'll do a good job.
The series itself is almost over. Sakamoto sensei is doing this odd thing where he's doing one chapter a month for the last 4. Each one has a color page and is extra long. There are 2 yet to come out. Then it's over.
Started reading this recently, currently at ch. 108. It is incredibly good. The drama, the tragedy. The characters have lot of depth, and the general feel of their developement and action is really realistic. The characters are incredibly well built. As I already mentioned in an other thread; at the start I felt like going climbing again after a long time. At chapter 80 or so I thought never never never. Now I'm convinced I'll die slow and gruesomely if I raise even above 1m of the ground. The story is such a roller coaster. I'm like all the time.
Hmm, it is actually quite good that majority of Moris comrades have died. Because seems like everyone who is alive has robbed him atleast once.
Ok, so Japanzai totally failed to do anything. There's a long description of it in the top of my translation for chapter 159.
But Easy Going Scans is scanlating this now, and doing a really good job. So I'll be getting back to translating.
There are 170 chapters in total, volume 17 is the last one. And it's really awesome. The last few chapters were done extra-long and came out in the magazine once a month. And most of them had color pages which I scanned all of. Otherwise scanlations will be done with the volume scans. And should be coming out at least one chapter a week.

I had put a halt in reading the scans because I wanted to read it in bulk, hehe. Thanks for the hard work, guys.
I just read up to vol 14. Takemura, what a douche. But oh wow, what a great manga that gets me hooked every single time!!!
Anyone else still reading this? The recent chapters are especially awesome and there is only like two volumes left.
I'm still reading it. I saw the releases are up to 158- I'm four chapters behind... >.<
I really wish for a happily ever after... *fingers crossed*
I'm hoping for a happy ending too, because I really like Mori as a character. Though this is one of those cases where I'm just not sure if the main character will make it in the end. That's part of what makes this series so good.
I really liked the ending. I still have to translate that last chapter. The last chapter has a profile of the real Katou Buntarou at the end, which I wanted to do. As well as a sort of "ending note" from the author. It's a really excellent series I've felt is more emotionally engaging than any other I've read.
waaaa so it's the end. Can't wait to read it, and at the same time, well, it's always sad to see an end to a series,
unless they pull a "bakuman" and end it pretty abrubtly :/ Of course this series is nothing like that because it's a seinen and releases are quite slow to surprise anyone.
Thanks for sticking with the translation all this time kewl. It's been a really great read and I can't wait to see the ending.
wow the art on ch 161 is breathtaking! the depiction of his internal struggle- fission at the cellular level! effing genius!
Yeah, I was impressed by that too. Very powerful imagery.
Man I decided to start catching up wit kokou no hitou again (I had stopped before easy going scans picked it up) and man still as awesome as ever. Even more I'd say.
Takemura was stupid but I felt sorry for him he wanted to be like Mori so much and even though I love Mori he was kinda cold towards him in the past, probably to prevent him from risking his life in the mountains and the reason he went in this climb was to try and save him as we saw.
But the moment Takemura died he was free of his burden and finding the guy from the early chapters dead in there at the same time woke up the old Mori who was one with the mountain and climbed free of worldly thoughts. (Also what a terrible death freezing to death tearing his own skin apart)
At first I was mad at Mori for endangering his life like that and not thinking of his family and friends he acquired with so much hard work. But when he actually gave up on his life long dream in the previous chapter and started to cry I felt sad for him even though I was happy for his family.
Also the author has been giving his best with the art some shoots from the mountains and the sky make me understand Mori's fascination for mountains.
