A Naruto MMORPG? It will NEVER happen. Unless you consider those crappy BYOND games MMO's, but whatever.
Actually there is one in progress right now. They're still looking for some ideas and suggestions:
Thats not an MMORPG. Anyone can make forums and say they are "making" an MMORPG based on Naruto. I'd bet my paycheck that they wont make it to one single release. Nobody ever does. I've seen it happen a dozen times and i've predicted it to be true each. /begin sarcasm:: Like a bunch of teenagers can put together an anime based MMORPG... right. /end sarcasm::
You know how big Dragonball/Z/GT was or is? Ever seen an MMORPG based on that? Well... my point exactly.
It depends on how attractive it is. DBZ was so hot but back then we didn't even have Counter-Strike to play online. What does game makers look out for? Market size. Naruto is one of the most popular manga on the surface of the Earth, perfect for both genders. For your information, there are way too many Free MMORPGs on the Internet now. And if someone does decently develope this, it sure is to be a hit.
Well one indication of potential would be if whoevwr is making the game actually has a deducated developement team and they have done a great amount of work PRIOR TO creating a forum.
I have watched the type that open forums and say they are recruiting people for their project and they are developing a game. They never make it anywhere because in the end they all have the same problem, they end up losing the few people who are actually doing work because "life" gets in the way. And they never manage to recruit a full developement team from their forums in the first place. So they are doomed to fail beore they even start. They end up wasting to much time trying to maintain their Forums while there is virtually no progress on the game.
You guys aren't even considering the problem with licensing the game. You can't just make a Naruto MMORPG and sell it for 1337 cash or anything. Nobody is going to make an MMORPG of that size (trust me, it takes a lot more than most people realize to make a simple online game - an MMORPG is insanely more difficult and time consuming) for free.
Remember the quake conversion BidForPower? It was DBZ to the T, and was super super AMAZINGLY awesome. And it got shut down due to legal threats because they didn't purchase a license to use the characters, trademark, etc etc.
The chances of someone having enough money (and beyond that, legitimacy of game development) to purchase a license for this kind of project is SLIM AT BEST - and any start up college or kid programmers who jump in on it are sure to fail without a doubt. (That is, a non-major development studio..)
^what he said! (or she)
I am thinking red alert style naruto game
honestly id rather play a s-cry-ed mmorpg before i play a naruto mmorpg and the only way id play a naruto mmorpg is if blizzard made it otherwise it would suck and you all know it
An Naruto MMORPG would not only be nice, would be awesome.
But I can't see how can you make a real good battle mode in this kind of MMORPG.
I mean, in Naruto characters jump, roll over, use genjutsu to trick their oponents and stuff.
That will be harder to do.
There is some sort of mmorpg with Naruto but is a turn based.
Umm...they are making a Dragon Ball MMO >_> And I'll totally play it every day.
Anyways, a Naruto MMO might work, depending on who does it. If Ubisoft did it, I wouldn't touch it. If cyberconnect2 did it, I'd consider it, but they might have to stick to their fighting games.
I'm torn on the topic of a Naruto MMO n_n;
