A Death Befitting a Shinobi
Is hard to believe that after 369 chapters after his first appearance, Hoshigaki Kisame is finally dead. Many expected Kisame to bit the dust before Itachi, as Itachi was seen as one key antagonist in the whole series and maybe the main antagonist, till we knew about Pain and Uchiha Madara. Kisame was the specialist in defeating Jinchuuriki and keeping them alive, as we saw in his fight against the sanbi and hachibi itself.
Kisame itself was not the typical character, while his appearance may show you a barbarian, the truth is that Kisame was a highly and respectful character, even towards his enemies, we won't know exactly what he meant about wanting a world without lies, we have our guesses, but it will probably till we see a flashback from Madara, that we'll get to known details about this.
Kisame is the longest running character from Akatsuki, as he was introduced in chapter 139.
Information is power.
Capture him alive, capture him alive, Aoba says, however saying it, easier than to get it done, still nice to see reinforcing the role of Aoba in this arc and how badly he wanted to obtain information about Akatsuki plans.
1001 uses for a water prison
Use #1, Restraining prison
Use #2, an ultimate defense
Use #3, Aquarium
Honestly a picture that will make it to he best shot ever!, is this of Kisame's water prison and his sharks eating him alive. Is epic in all the proportion of the word. Kisame choose the way he wants to die, he chooses dying like a shark, the animal that inspired his whole persona.
Finally we get know about the first day of Kisame and Itachi as partner in Akatsuki. There's has always being a reason on how and why Akatsuki are teamed up. Kakuzu and Hidan were teamed up because they couldn't kill each other, while Itachi and Kisame were partner because Kisame was a specialist killing his comrades, just like Itachi. Probably Madara had something to do with this pair, because it makes senses to put a person who wants and is capable of killing him (Itachi), with a person who is loyal to his ideals (Kisame).
Those who turn their hands against their comrade are you sure to suffer a terrible death. What an epic way of Itachi to describe the kind of death they would be destined to suffer, even tough they both chosen their way to die... Itachi decided to die in the hands of Sasuke and Kisame decided to die in the mauls of his sharks.
Is stunning how his death change the perspective of the game, Akatsuki is now down to 2 official members and 2 pick ups (Sasuke and Kabuto). However Madara lost his most valuable or loyal asset of all with the death of Kisame. The manga is reaching the last curve, the end of Naruto is just about 100 or 200 chapters away, we can see, we can feel it, Kishimoto knows how it will end, but still need to find out how to get there, as said in the interviews, How much the end will change from the original idea, it will depend on how he develops the following events after Kisame's death.
Finally after 369 chapter, Gai manages to remember Kisame's name and make oath to never forget his name, with his memory probably, he already forget his name by chapter 511.
Gigi cried for real this time, I mean what's going on in Gigi's mind?. First I tought Gigi was a girl and now Kirabi reveals that she is a he?.. weird.
I can't say the word about what I think about Giri, all I said is that he is a dog!, or maybe the word that start with B?.
Kisame's last hat trick.
Funny, isn't it?. Gai was still in possession of scroll that have valuable information about Kumogakure's strength and even maybe about the their secret codes, How come that Motoi or Kirabi never asked Gai to hand over the scroll?, probably the Raikage will ask them the same.
Kisame last trick was summoning a shark in a water prison like technique, this is not the first time we see a technique like this... because we got to see this technique during the rescue Haruna's filler arc, in that time being used by Ruiga, as side note.. in that arc we got to see for first time the use of iron sand, technique that would be granted later to Sandaime Kazekage, Hinata shines!.
This combined with a jutsu that could imprison several shinobi in water prisons, did the trick and it was the last trick that Kisame left prepared, those who were thinking that Kisame sent the scroll in another sharke, probably went two weeks into the future. damn you time travelers. So the ability to successfully protect and deliver information, makes Kisame a really respectable character. He defeated Kirabi, whether or not you believe that Kisame would be capable of defeating Kirabi's ultimate bijuu form, depends on wether or not you believe that Suigetsu was capable of survived a blast from the bijuu form and wether or not you believe Hachibi about running out of chakra and not being capable of waking up Kirabi.
Konan vs Madara
The last of Amegakure Sannin, will fight against the man who is actually a shell of his former self, but at the same time is said in the fanbook that he decides to hide the extension of his powers. Konan didn't really get time to shine during his participation as Pain's right hand and protector, she still was not afraid to fight a Naruto who defeated the six paths...
This speak highly about how she is willing to put her life in front of the line to protect what she cares about. Both characters have abilities that make them pretty much untouchable, however the weather conditions don't seems to be favor Konan. For sure Madara saw the weather forecasting on tv, before heading to Amegakure, or ...
maybe is not a big deal since we have seen her paper shurinken in action under raining and over water and in fact was her attack that landed firsts over Jiraiya's Kagebunshin. The good part is that we might get to see even more about Konan, I hope she don't bit the dust and hopefully Madara won't be able to get the rinnengan due the limits of his own power at this point.
The pace of the chapter was good, we didn't fee like things were being forced or rushed unlike chapter 506, the Madara vs Konan confrontation is a good opportunity for Kishimoto to reveal Madara's true plans or at least how rinnengan fits in the whole plot. It is also a good opportunity to reveal more about Konan, in terms of her skills as shinobi, she was pretty much the second in charge during Pain's leadership, at least from my point of view.
The shinobi from Konoha and Kumogakure got totally owned by Kisame, we saw this in chapter 506 as Kisame managed to take Kirabi and Aoba out of action and now when in his last moments he manages to make a defeat a a victory in terms of what he was ordered to do and that was to gather information about Kumogakure, now all the villages are exposed and obviously since Kumo don't really know what information Akatsuki got about them, they are in the most danger, because those village that were attacked by Akatsuki, at least know what happened and how they can counter such methods in the future, but I don't see how Kumo can escape from Nagato's Chibaku tensei if this used by him trough Kabuto's edo tensei.
Kisame and Itachi interaction was awesome, I hoped Binktopia/Mangastream watermark weren't in some of the best part of this recollection, but they just love putting the watermark above most of the best pictures and they pretty much can do as they please . Kisame and Itachi decided the way they wanted to die, and from Kisame's perspective being eaten by his sharks wasn't that bad after-all, so his last thought was... "I wasn't that bad after all", but yes he was that bad after all, he capture and was responsible "presumably" of the death of most Jinchuuriki, as he said that he was the most successful in capturing Jinchuuriki alive, so yes he was that bad.
You have to admire the strong will written to Kisame, even Naruto had to praise how he would not betray his comrades in Akatsuki and remembered about Pain, the thing is that people is not really as bad as we think, neither as good as we think... that's what we get from this chapter and if we look back when Pain captured Naruto, before Hinata came to the rescue... Pain ask what are you going to do bring peace?, to what Naruto replied I'm gonna crush you, become Hokage and bring peace to the world, I think this the best example of the message here and you know how it can be applied in real life from the different point of view and our world's current situation.
Maybe I look too much into it, but I believe that Naruto is becoming more and more reflection of our world's story and Kishimoto's reflection, which in my humble opinion instead of hurting the manga, adds, as he is very subtle to not let his emotions drive his judgement. A man who admires western culture so much and his country itself got crushed by western country in the most despicable act in the story of mankind, but at least it seems that we all learned that there are limits to what can be done, even in those scenarios of strife.
What I want to happen?, I don't want Konan to die, because she must be one of those to aid Naruto in changing the Shinobi world, I would love to see her forcing Madara to retreat from Amegakure or Madara finding out where the rinnengan is and being forced to escape with them as he current strength could not match Konan, that would be a decent way to do things and it would not hurt the story as Madara himself described his current condition a shell of what he was as shinobi.
I also want to see more about Konan and probably a reconfirmation of the alliance between Amegakure and Konoha .

Great review cheers for that...although I think Kisame defeated Yonbi IIRC...
Anyway...U nailed everything about Kisame's character...it's great to see that a character who had such little spotlight would receive a great development...Kishimoto basically compressed the essence of being a dtrong shinobi...
In this manga strong shinobi, are the ones who endured some really hard times in their life and managed to overcome those...even if Kisame killed comrades in the past, he kinda changed and his last breath went out for the sake of his comrades...it's a reinforcement of the main theme in part 2 which is bonds as stated by Kishimoto, and proven throughout the story...
I also liked that U mentioned the fact that Kisame was respectful and disciplined. I don't know whether or not people are familiar with japanese, but he uses a polite form of speech with everyone, and alwasy showed a certain calmness, even if when on rampage he was like a beast...
Overall Kisame manifested another theme that was used a few times in part 1 so it was a good feeling to see this happening all over again...basically people who give their support and trust to a lost lamb, like Kimimaro, Haku earn the latter people's trust and total loyalty...Madara sort of gave a new life to Kisame, and pulled him out of the darkness gave him a reason to live, an opportunity to never betray comrades again...
But the quote of the week is definitely: We're human, not fish...and it comes from Itachi who shoed in the series that he has a pretty clear vision of what shinobi life is...
Thx for the review again...have a good weekend
Great review as always and keep it up.
I always believed that Kisama will out-lived Itachi, because Kisame is truly an opportunist who knows how to play Tobi's game. I voted that Konan reveals that Rinnengan has being passed down to another shinobi (Naruto), and I don't think she is going to die and I want to see her kick Tobi's behind.
the chapter was really good and kisame end reflected his life. I loved the way he died. as for itach, he prouved himself to be someone calm and knew what he was doing and where he lived. for konan I hope we'll see some developement about her skills and more. who knows maybe a flasbacks of how they encontered madara. I hope she won't die and madara fight himself this time.
thanks for the review, really great
have a good weekend
the same kisame who took lives of his comrades once, gave up his own life the way he did was portraited in a great way..
and about Rinnengan, since Konan herself said that she was expecting Madara to come for the eyes, konan should have done something to the eyes, either handed them over to someone else or distroyed them. But i don't see the possibility of the eyes being handed over to Naruto. As the story is heading, Naruto is being shown as the one to have the body/spiritual power and Sasuke as the one with ocular powers, so isn't it pretty unlikely that naruto will get the Rinnengan ? Moreover, Naruto's already been shown in the Rikudo sennin like look (without the eyes), more like his son who inhereted the bodily power. So if anyone's gonna get the Rinnegan it's gotta be sasuke. As for Itachis eyes, it might probably get destroyed by naruto with the power itachi gave him. then comes sasuke with ETERNAL-MANGEKYO-RINNENGAN..lol
Nice review,thanx for that.
When i read that Gai said that he will remember him till rest of his life, and then said Kisame`s name,it makes me smile, and i took it as kind of irony, however i looked back last few chapters and couldnt find a panel where somebody named Hoshikagi Kisame with Gai next to him,so thats makes Gai knew his name and recognize him at least recently.
Actually i enjoy fact that Kishi show a lots of flasbacks regarding different shinobis or happenings(which probly heading to end up a manga as Alterno says),
even more happy to see Itachi, and we saw interesting thing(at least for me),
Itachi been showed for most time with activated sharinghan for all time,in this chapter sharinghan was deactivated,i wondering what was the reason for Itachi to have activated sharinghan at all time?
Hoping to see some more details about Konan now,and i think she is pretty strong, just Pain didnt let her be involved to much,as hes the one who protects his friends.
Great review, as always. One comment:
I think Gai is the other way around when he's serious: when he says he will lap the Konoha on hands 500 times, he will do it; when he says he will remember the name of Kisame for ever, he will definitely do it. Thats how I see his character <its not only about being stupid or play dumb> ^^Originally Posted by Alterno
Is there translate/writing error or Tobi called Konan as Nagato at last page?
If Madara's warping tech is all he has he can't beat Konan
Her Paper tech has been shown to not be affected by Water or fire only oil has been shown to work
her paper over powered one of Jiraiya's fire jutsus and Nagato actully used water to wash the oil off plus this is the rain village it always rains
Madara can't beat her unless he has somthing else her Paper body will allow her to disolve if he gets close get out his warping range which is an arms length away and attack him at the same time
Kishi said that Konan was in the middle of Akatsuki's power ranks and Madara is in a bad match for him he can't win unless Kabuto sent a zombie to help him
Sorry for not quoting too many messages to reply, would make the post look horrible, thank you very much for your kind words about the review and for the no so kind, critics are always welcome, after deep reflection :P.
Indeed he defeated Yonbi, but he said that he was the best from Akatsuki capturing Jinchuurikis alive, or at least I'm pretty sure he said that. I'll be checking the manga trough this week and check for the page/panel.
I don't think the rinnengan will be passed down to Naruto, still part of the list of characters I believe could have inherited the rinnengan, if such scenario shows up, but in the very last spot.
I never thought about possible flashbacks about how Konan and Nagato met Madara, but is really possible to learn trough their recollections about how they met.
I wonder if the rinnengan can be destroyed by conventional methods. But probably Konan being prepared to face Madara, would explain a possible victory over Madara, besides Madara being a weaker version of his former being.
He, I don't know if we can rely on short term memory events or events that are related to Gai's self rules.. lol
It seems like that, I honestly found this week's release, inferior in terms of quality, or at least to quality the people of Binktopia has released before.
The Katon being repelled by the paper was just in the anime, the katon burnt the paper over Tazuna-chan's husband.

Because of the sealing process, those markings came as outcome the sealing process, if you look at it, it also has the pattern of Minato's scroll, the markings only shows up when he access the the rest Kyuubi's chakra and now he is capable of doing it after absorbing the Kyuubi's chakra, not before.
So is the outcome of the seal and absorbing the chakra.
Hopefully Konan destroyed the eyes
which i doubt, but im sure she knew Madara needed those eyes
since she knew Madara was using Nagato for a purpose.
It would be great if she gave herself rhe rinnegan lmao
Second what Rikudo had in his neck wasn't markings, it was a necklace, so unless Rikudo chakra scanned his body and copied the chakra inside the jyuubi.
