i really enjoyed this episode, ace is now free. we're finally getting somewhere after prolonging the events that led up to it. i really liked how they reused some of the older music, i havent heard the song that was playing when luffy was about hit/hit garp since the ussop arc in east blue.
That Whitebeard Pirate fire mark is great. So Garp tamed some monkeys and gorilla to fight and train Luffy. I didn't expect Sengoku's zoan form to shine by the way.
Luffy's arrival to the scafold was a bit unrealistic, standing there and smiling and stuff, while Sengoku was standing too doing nothing... In the manga, it wasn't unrealistic, the moment Luffy arrived, Sengoku turned into Buddha form and stuff, they stretched that scene and made Sengoku look like an idiot.
But besides that, it was a really good episode, i loved the flashbacks !
Try this one. It has always worked fine
luffy finally reached the scaffold.. after running for literally hours.. how far was that scaffold anyway?.. great chapter, loved the burning whitebeard mark.. and yeah what the hell was sengoku standing there for? he could smack luffy right there, even before he steps on the scaffold..
It was really good episode. I liked the animation and the tension in the moment when Luffy realised that he need to kill his grandpa to reach Ace and the shock he got in his eyes was priceless. I also enjoyed the part with flashbacks. It was really touching.
I'd say this episode is around from 8/10 to 9/10.
What a fricking awesome entrance by Ace! The flames shaped into the WB Jolly Roger was awesome. I loved it. It definitely was a mean and badass rescue/entrance lol haha. It was interesting to witness Sengoku's df power in the anime. Not quite what I had initially expected of it. Meh. I'm not too fussed about it. I'm just glad I got to see the Mera Mera no Mi in the anime again!

A long time ago I predicted that the color of sengoku's DF is gold and it turned out to be right .
Pretty much a great episode.. Toei has done very very good work.
This chapter translated to anime great, and actually in many scenes added color and depth that is clearly not available within the constraints of manga.
yeah, the end was weird for some reason.. like their faces got warped or something. Should be used to that though.. and there's worse to come with the face-warping..
I didn't expect Sengoku to be gold (even though it makes sense with what buddhist statues actually look like..)
and for some reason it was hilarious
More old One Piece music for the flashbacks would be good, some of the new tunes are growing on me but the old music back in East Blue was so awesome, one of the things that kept me watching..

WOW i loved when ace was freed and the mark of WB appeared in the sky...so cool and the entire moment after that when he said to luffy that he has always been like that this episode was very well done IMO... this made me forget the bad way , luffy using haki ,was done 'cause that really sucked
That's funny because I feel the complete opposite.
While the episode in all was good, if you split it into fragments it's not that good. The direction is awful once again. They stretch the Luffy rescue as much as they can, making the events at the execution stand look ridiculous, with Sengoku standing there like an idiot for what seems to be minutes.
Then there's completely unnecessary Mr.3 flashback while they are hanging in the air trying to free Ace. That was a great move if director wanted to destroy the pacing and the feel of urgency.
And ffs, Mr.3 knocked out one of the executors and took his uniform. We get that even without step-by-step explanation, thank you.
Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy the episode, but not so much that I can oversee big flaws in it. Couple of seconds of awesome Ace animation can't change that.
