Les Gouttes de Dieu (or Kami no Shizuku or Drops of God)
Plot: Kanzaki Shizuku, is the son of a recently deceased, world renowned wine critic Kanzaki Yutaka who owns a vast wine collection. In order to take ownership of his legacy, he must find 13 wines, known as the "12 apostles" and the "Les Gouttes de Dieu" that his father described in his will. He has a competitor called Toomine Itsusei, a renowned young wine critic, who is his father's adopted son.
Shizuku has never drunk or has any previous knowledge about wines, but with strong senses of taste and smell, plus knowledge gained from his time with his father, and with support from his friends and colleagues like sommelier trainee Shinohara Miyabi, Shizuku submerged himself in the world of wines and try to solve the mysteries of the 13 wines and defeat Toomine Itsusei.
So... Does anyone know this one??? It's not really popular except for in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan (and maybe France)...
Nope, never heard of it. Any links to RAWs or scanlations of the sort?
How old is this manga btw?
Never heard of it either, and I haven't found any chapters yet. But I'm not surprised there's a manga about wines...
According to a French article on wikipedia, it began in 2004 in Weekly Morning.
~edit : mangatraders has the first three chapters

Ahh... Well, I have Korean version of Vol. 1.
I've read a few volumes of this.....it's seinen, so moving it to where it belongs. ^^
And kudos to the group who did the scans! This manga is very wordy, the story is long, tedious and technically 'heavy' to translate. It has a lot of wine terms, the vintage, decanting techniques & every other stuff related to the making of wine. Of course, besides wine, the story includes Shizuku's encounters with other characters and how their life is affected by wine. It's not really a race against time, so if you expect more action, you will not find it here. And there is a glossary/index pages (stress: long articles) at the end of each tank talking about the different grades of wine mentioned in the series. Who knows, maybe after reading this, you can impress your dates with your knowledge of wineOriginally Posted by shrimp
Aha! It's that attractive-artwork serie I saw in Weekly Morning! I've meant to search for it forever (but always forgot). Thanks for the info and thanks for bringing it up.
*go checking #lurk*

Four chapters of this were released so far.
It's... entertaining I suppose, nothing special.
@Nami: hehe thanx, i wasn't sure where it belonged ^^ and the translating is really difficult for this one. i tried but gave up while doing the second chapter =/
@Yabe: Yeah, the artwork is definitely attractive and im pretty sure lurk has some volumes...
I like this series, actually, I am collecting the HK version. My first reaction was the art is very well done and as for the story, thought I started knowing nothing about wine (still don't know much about it) as a whole, it's pretty interest. The story is bit more than just about wine, it's about human relations and a bit about life. I believe the author is the same author for Kindaichi, Getbackers, Psychometret Eiji, Shibatora etc..just with another alias.
I think Forum Raw Manga has the Japanese version posted. I can't remember if it's under 'Les Gouttes de Dieu' or "Kami no Shizuku".
To add more positive boost: it's also an enjoyable read if you're even priorly interested in the art of wine-tasting/winery. Though I also don't know much about the world of wine thus I can't opine on how accurate and how much depth it gets into; but some of the technics are fantastically interesting I recalled seeing before from some books and the film Sideways.
NCIS scanlated the serie in English and there're four chapters released (as Digitalr told) - could be found at their website and also lurk.net (gotta seach in the japanese title "Kami no Shizuku").
I confirm the manga has made a huge start in France (already 8 volumes translated). I imagine it's due to the big media coverage it had and maybe because it's spoke a lot of french wine.
The story is full of exageration (who's seing a fields of flower when he drinks wine, honnestly). But that is a nice and original introduction to the world of wine especially for the appendix of every volume.
I wonder how they manage not to have the "drinking with moderation" advertisement seing all characters are drinking much more than what shall be requested :-)
They have made a TV serie out of it, but I found it rather lame compare to the manga
yeah, its even bigger in korea since 20 volumes are out haha. and korean people love wine (i dont even know why...) and this manga is extremely popular even to those who dont usually read manga. i was actually introduced to this series by my dad, whos absolutely opposed to me being an otaku. sorta ironic .
and drinking in moderation is not something so popular in either japan or korea .
Well I have a consolation, I have plenty more choice in wine that every coreen for half the price they pay it... I'm going to Italy this summer, maybe I will taste some of chosuke bottles. I don't know much about italian wine beside lambrusco
and the "drinking with moderation" was more a reference to the fact that it is a compulsory notice in france when you make an advertisement for alcohol. I bet they did not plan that manga could be made on every topic :-)
Teak has been regularly putting out translations for Kami no Shizuku on this very site. I think you'd get more replies for this thread using the Japanese title rather than the French title.
