I have to admit, when I was reading Medaka Box it was mostly for really shallow reasons. I just wanted Medaka and Zenkichi to get together already, and I loved seeing Medaka kick ass and take names. Everything else in the story was fluffy padding. Some story arcs were great (like Kumogawa, you kind of have to mention him, right?) and the rest were kind of meh.
I think its precisely because I read Medaka Box in such a casual way that I enjoyed it. I think if I tried to analyze what each plot device or reference was I'd probably have rage-quit somewhere down the line.
I also read The Erotic Tales of Little Red Riding Hood a while back, expecting smut but...the story was also quite entertaining! It's rare to see a submissive kind of guy outside of yaoi or BL for me. It was a good subversion of the original tale, and even modern versions of it.
Mine would probably be reading and watching Seikon no Qwaser, I usually avoid incredibly ecchi things or even things with sometype of yuri in them, but the first half with the chemistry and action and Sasha himself just makes it compelling, and some of it is just so ridiculous that its hard to try to not see. (plus in the anime, like Hana's voice is perfect and so memorable for the role, Faylan lends the music so it keeps me focused on it, and then Theresa is like a nun, and somehow in some weird way these type of characters in series with great devotion is always a huge highlight in my book for them).
