Death Note wise, L wasn't pure evil at first...he had good intentions, only later did he get corrupted. But I think Ashirogi Muto is aiming for a crime villain being the main character, like maybe Lupin or Kaitou Kid, except eviller. Since Sigma is pulling crimes, but it isn't clear if he's evil or not.
I really doubt they're going to do a Death Note series, since Ohba and Obata don't seem the type to make references to their own mangas, and the timeline suggests that Death Note is already over...but these are just my speculations.
I wouldn't think about Fukuda but I would think more about shun shiratori being our mysterious guy. Shiratori wouldn't want to publicly release this manga given his age, or maybe he wouldn't be, given his age, allowed to release something (hence the age issue), or it must be that he doesn't want to embarrass his family. He is very young while he uses an old mediator who is known by a wsj editor. He first asked Miura and then he asked Hattori. Those are two editors he has probably known because of ashirogi mutou.

why don't we make a poll about the x guy? I would give my chips to never introduced unknown guy...
I think this mysterious guy is a guy that has never been shown in the manga at all.
I think he's someone completely new. Someone who has prior experience in manga from another publisher.
Bakuman is like a novel at some points.
The author is putting too much text info in one story.
I'm not complaining, it just baffles me how the artist is able to correlate eac text with his drawings so fast and naturally.
It was like these two people are the perfect team to create something as good as Bakuman/Death Note.
Takeshi Obata was a mentor for few big series author/creator. Kentaro Yabuki (Black cat), Yusuke Murata (ES21) Nobuhiro Natsuki (Samurai X) all had been his assistant at some point.
and the famous Eiichiro Oda was an assistant for Nobuhiro Natsuki. What else to speak
The creator of this manga is a genius
This arc is about a mangaka with an external editor (i.e. not employed by Shuiesha). The old guy created the whole manga but the secret man helped him strengthen and improve it. Any one with me on this?
I'm with the idea that the old guy is just in charge of drawing, and the story and this whole overarching "plan" is done by the other mysterious guy.
Heishi described the old guy as someone who is good at drawing girls and panties, but couldn't write a story to save his life. That's why he didn't last long even in Shonen Three. Please do not tell me it took him 30 years for an idea for a good manga to hit him in the head....
it's the comeback of the internet guy
after all, several month have passed since then in the storytime
am i right if i say that the authors of bakuman are doing exactly what ashirogi kun is trying to do? not just this arc, but also the other previous arcs, starting from that arc when they were still thinking of a new series after tanto (PCP).hattori told them to have their next series as "serious humor" there was one point in there where there was serious humor. Since then, bakuman itself became serious humor in some points in the story. also, when takagi planned to do a morally ambiguous manga, a morally ambiguous character did appear on bakuman (Nanamine kun). and then, in this arc, ashirogi kun is planning to do a non mainstream yet mainstream battle with a mysterious character which we dont know if he represents justice or evil. And Bakuman itself has that kind of character (the mysterious guy). does anyone agree?
I completely agreed with your assessment;
there's multiple purposeful parallels.
Can somebody open the 142 Spoiler thread? The chinese scans are out.
