You should change the topic to "Alternative titles of dead #1s" or "Different translations of dead #1s" or sth like that since you don't know Japanese and have no way of knowing whether it's a better translation. Personally I doubt it for several reasons (the main you can see below). Firstly, molokidan has the highest rank translator can get on MH and works in Japan as a professional translator. He's a graduate student at Kyoto University of Art & Design translating books (so he's on a level well beyond your regular manga translators). Just read his profile (you will find there links to prove he's no amateur). He probably knows Japanese better than many Japanese people. And gernot is not that far from him and when it comes to Claymore he is more literal and closer to original than molokidan who was doing speed translations (but even then he did better than cnet or shrimpy, he's that good). If gernot has some doubts or there is particularly difficult or ambiguous statement he consults with his Japanese friends (not friends who "know" Japanese). I'm not saying I'm 100% sure this friend of soluuloi is wrong, but it's very unlikely that both gernot and molokidan made mistakes. There is a huge difference between knowing Japanese and KNOWING Japanese. Anyway, here is a translation of the nicknames using Japanese-English dictionary:
三つ腕のリヒティ (Rihite):Originally Posted by Dictionary
As you can see most of these are very, very close to molokidan's and gernot's translation and there are is no "tears" or "genesis". He might have been right about Cassandra though but that's because he read 113th chapter. When gernot translated it he had no information that she was dying for hours and had 126 cuts to her body. But still "dust" remains in this phrase and I think gernot and molokidan were right.Quote:
lol @ bolded translations of Cassandra's nickname.
