just because in nature, flame can burn up thorns, doesn't necessarily mean it will be the same with a-ts and the infinite atmospheres. by far, fang and thorn are the most offensive road/tricks of the 8 original roads. virgin blade may not even be the thorn+fang combo, gazelle was referred to as being the virgin blade even before she developed the fang+thorn tricks - in fact, the whole virgin blade thing is more tied to the meaning of 'wings of beginning' as we constantly see in the raw script (wings of beginning are in the furigana or original kanji text whenever virgin blade is mentioned).
the specialty of thorn tricks is its more flexible attack pattern, plus it has effectively 'broken/sliced' up tricks of other roads like gaia/jade and wind. what's not to say that thorn tricks can't tear through a flame trick... quite honestly, unlike the wind and gaia/jade road tricks, flame isn't exactly much of a 'barrier' to break through so i would imagine that even if kazu were to go up against rika or ringo, the thorn attacks would still 'hit'. actually, thorn attacks are mini 'sonic booms' and if strong burst passes through a flame, the flame will 'be pushed out of the way' because it can't hold up against it.
Also, don't misunderstand that pages that talk about the "original". The "original" was Gazelle. She's the main basis for the Brain Charger Project, all of the Brain Chargers were based off of her. The "Heart's Wing" was also seen in her first. But yeah, Ikki seems to also have it. But Kazu doesn't have it. The "Heart's Wind" thing wasn't referring to Heart's Wing. They are two totally different things. When they mention the "Heart's Wind," they're talking about Kazu's belief in himself, and his heart, which Nogtar, or whatever his name is, broke. That's all.
Found the page where Dr. Minami talks about the virgin blade http://www.mangafox.com/manga/air_gear/v32/c319/11.html
I think this is the proof that Simca is talking about Rika and not Kazu.
Hmm this might not be the thread for it, but someone mind answering me why is it that a raw is around for like 10+ days, but nobody has released a translated version yet? Are there really no groups whatsoever dedicated to getting scans (I don't think you can even find a translation) of Air Gear out faster? I mean, it's a fairly popular shonen (or was, I couldn't tell you now).
