Oh hai there.
I've been around for quite some time and thought it might be nice to finally have my own thread. I didn't wanna make one in the deserted slums we all know as "Meet the Translators" section though, mainly due to the following two reasons:
So well, what can I say? Oh yeah, there was this icebreaker thing... I guess, I'll start with the Pivot Questionnaire which was popularized by the brilliant James Lipton from Inside the Actors Studio (a show I greatly enjoy btw!):
- Like I said, it's too quiet over there. You could hear a pin drop.
- I'm currently too busy to take any projects upon me and translation requests seem to be what mostly goes on there.
1. What is your favorite word?
I mostly like 'difficult' words and those with a nice sound to them. I think I'd go with the word "tabernacle" in my mother tongue but solely because of its pleasant sound. (I'm an atheist.)
2. What is your least favorite word?
Probably some youth lingo or cutesy kind of word, like "sweety" or "muffin" for your lover.
3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Mind-body-dualism right ahead: beautiful minds and/or well-shaped bodies.
4. What turns you off?
5. What is your favorite curse word?
"F*ck" in any variety.
6. What sound or noise do you love?
Jazz music. (Especially the sound of clarinet and piano!)
7. What sound or noise do you hate?
High-pitched noises and constant snuffling.
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I'd actually love to be a screenwriter for some really big show or videogame.
9. What profession would you not like to do?
Too many possible answers...
10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"See? You were wrong about me... *trollface*"
I think that will suffice for a start. Maybe one or the other of you guys wants to drop by and leave a post. I'd like that very much.
Ermahgerd!! Someone finally dropped by...
Hey there goldb!
Well, to be honest I haven't been reading that much in the past couple of months and I'm not really the kind of guy who keeps up with releases all the time. (I'm more of an in-batch reading type of person.)
Some of the last series I read were Bambino SECONDO, ad astra - Scipio to Hannibal, and Jin, all three of which really great in their own aspects!
But I'm reading a bit of everything. That includes of course the more popular stuff from JUMP and other magazines. - When I find the time I might eventually start a reading list at MAL or some other place.
And thanks for the invite. Sure will do!

Yeah sorry, I forgot to check some of the threads lower in the Member Zone
Those seem to be good series to follow, especially Bambino. I'll add them to my MAL and check them when I get the chance.
Besides manga, what other hobbies do you have? Favourite movies, TV series?
And make sure to share your MAL when you create one, I'm intrigued to see what your complete reading list looks like
Aw, no need to feel sorry! Better late than never, right?
I love reading, writing and music. Sportswise I'm really into soccer (both: playing and watching) and to keep in shape I do some running 1 or 2 times a week. (usually around 5 miles)
I'm not that big a movies guy... it's my Achilles heel of some sort. I'd probably say The Godfather or one of Martin Scorsese's films.
But I'm all the more invested in TV series! Some of my favorite shows are (in alphabetical order):
Again it's a little potpourri of everything... I'm a sucker for drama though, that's probably my favorite genre in manga and TV series.
- Boardwalk Empire
- Breaking Bad
- Chappelle's Show
- Game of Thrones
- Mad Men
- South Park
- White Collar
What football team do you follow and your favourite league? You're more than welcomed to join the discussions in the Football Thread if that is the case then. I'm an Arsenal fan myself and have always been since my coming to UK. I doubt it'll ever change despite the current ongoings of the club and lack of trophies .
I'll let your lack of a movie list go because you gave me Martin Scorsese as director, that man is awesome. Gangs of New York?
From that list I watch/seen Chappelle's Show, Chuck( Sarah~), Game of Thrones, Mad Men(first few seasons), Scrubs, and some South Park episodes; I never really got into it like most people did. No place on your list for Community, Happy Endings, Big Bang Theory or 30 Rock? those are possibly the best comedy shows I've ever seen. Ever.
Welcome Mr. Prince and congrats for this thread....Good to see you're active and check your thread timely ...
From that list I'm watching only Game of Thrones and South Park (only from time to time).
How about fave music??
So, I'm extensively following the Bundesliga and try to keep track of EPL and La Liga as well. (Though the latter is mostly me fangasming over the boys from La Masia... )
Oh yeah, since you're an Arsenal supporter: Are you busy trying to learn this song thanks to RvP?
(Srsly, worst player's hymn EVER!)
Scorsese is pure genius!
Gangs of New York was great, yeah! But I'm an even bigger fan of his works featuring Robert De Niro. Dang, how I love that guy...
The Big Bang Theory has actually turned pretty shitty after season 2 in my taste. I really can't stand what Lorre and the writers did with most of the characters and story...
30 Rock is currently on top of my "To do"-list with series I intend to watch! I'll get back to you, once that's done.
Thanks for stopping by! You should definitely check out some of the other shows as well...
Let's see, music was it. As stated in the opening post, I'm a huge sucker for Jazz music. I also love most OST's and classical music. Speaking in terms of popular music I'd definitely have to go with Hiphop. Not sure if the usual name dropping works since I'm quite invested in Japanese music as well but some of my favorite artists include:
- HOME MADE 家族 (Home Made Kazoku)
- Kanye West
- 九州男 (Kusuo)
- Rudebwoy Face
- The Beatles

I'm from Congo originally. Hahah Bayern fan?! I myself am not so much into German League; more EPL and La Liga for Messi and Barcelona .
I don't think I'll be able to sing that song, I'll play it again though
How can I forget about Shutter Island?
Check out Community and Happy Endings too! You won't regret it
I see that you're a translator, how long have you been learning Japanese? Do you have any personal experience(s) that you like to share about learning Japanese?
Classical music??? .....osts???
tell me mooaaaar....how about symphonic metal...goth??
And what's so funny about being a supporter of FCB! I'm from Munich and was born here as well, so it's no wonder my heart beats for the team. And Bundesliga still has a little way to go but it's done quite a good job at raising its popularity in the last few years, I guess.
Just join the whole "loo loo loo Lukas Podolski" and you're more than fine.
I still don't know what Wenger wants with all those B quality German players (e.g. Mertesacker, Podolski) but Podolski seems to cope well with his new situation. Never thought he would even make one good game for the Gunners...
The list goes on and on, man. Taxi Driver, Good Fellas, Raging Bull, Casino...
Alrighty, I'll give it a try!
I'm a major for Japanese studies at University, started in Fall 2008. So it's nearly 4 years by now. (Damn, how the time flies by...)
Well, what can I say about it... one thing is for sure and that is: Mangahelpers is a great place to seek help from fellow translators!
mikkih-mama and all those other nice and helping users from the "Translators' Academy", how it's called nowadays, do an amazing job.
I guess it's a little difficult for me, since I was trained the conventional way (i.e. not self-taught like most guys on this site) and therefore am not sure how much of a help my words can be for fellow learners.
But if I were to give one advice to every person who thinks about starting to learn the language, it's the following: Do it! Do it and never be afraid of anything! - I see that so many people are somehow intimidated by how different and exotic Japanese is (i.e. you have three different systems of script, you probably don't have much of a chance to put your knowledge into practice regularly, etc.) but in the end there is really no need to be shied off and run the risk of missing out on a great experience.
It's fun! The kind of fun I would never want to miss. : )
Symphonic metal? What was that again, stuff like Nightwish or Within Temptation?
Can't say it's exactly my cup of tea. I do like some of the arrangements but the overall atmosphere is probably what's putting me off...
Oh, and "Wishmaster" is always great for a good laugh with its malaprop eggcorn videos at YouTube. :xD
I agree that many aspiring Japanese language learner are afraid of Kanji, but for me, that is the part where frustration and fun combined. If Japanese language has no exotic scripts, it would be not as much as fun, I believe.
There's nothing funny about being a Bayern supporter, they're a good club, just laughing at the unfortunate defeat to Chelsea
I'll just hum along for now Wenger is....well he is what he is. Sells our captains and brings in shoddy replacement. We have established ourselves as the supermarket team of Top tier European football, along with Porto
