I think Bleach has many similarities in Yu Yu Hakusho. Think about it.
Especially the Captains and Vice Captains, Mukuro, Raizen and Yomi became the Gotei 13 in Bleach.
Also a scene from Hunter x Hunter where Pakunoda used her hatsu and shot the other members of Genei Ryodan was copied by Akira Amano of Katekyo Hitman Reborn in the Early Chapters/Episodes where Reborn shot dying will bullets to Tsuna. The flames in the forehead of Tsuna and the other Genei Ryodan are very much alike. I think Akira Amano got the concept from Hunter x Hunter.

And yes Bleach does copy Yu Yu Hakusho badly, but not for the reasons you have listed.
Check out this article on why Naruto and Bleach would not have existed without Togashi:

Well, every Shounen has some similarities.
Aside of everything that was said, clichés are often and stereotypical characters seems to be impossible to avoid for any cool mangas.
How about what makes them DIFFERENT? And don't just say HxH is better. That's obvious.
Chuunin Exam and Hunter Exam
Seem similar don't they:
difficulty finding the hunter exam=genjutsu trick in finding the chuunin exam
Trick Tower=Written Exam
Zevil Island=Forest of Death
Final Exams are both Tournaments.
3 Man Team + Kabuto= Gon, Kurapika and Leorio+ Killua
-Chuunin Exam did not have a marathon and a cooking exam.
-Final exams are quite different as HxH's the LOSER is the one who advances
-Final exam in HxH is anticlimatic. Final exam in Naruto is the start of a war
-There was no war in HxH---which the Chuunin Exam was just set up for
-Final Exam in Naruto is a no holds barred contest. Final Exam in HxH is a test of willpower
-No teams required in Zevil Island. Teamwork is required through the entire chuunin exam minus the last exam
-The entire purpose of each example is utterly different. I'll explain:
The purpose of the Hunter Exam is as far as I understand it to issue the Hunter's License to qualified candidates.
The point of doing this is that Hunters do jobs for the Hunter Association and the Hunter Association gets commission.
The point of the Chuunin Exam is a substitute for war. The exam dwindles down to the "best of the best"
and has them fight in the Final Exam where Feudal Lords watch them. This gives investors a chance to see
which nations have the strongest fighters. The ones with the strongest fighters naturally get the most money.
I don't read Naruto, but I've heard many times of similarities and how they're friends. As I've read various series I've learned influence is a given, I know as a (amature) Writer myself, HxH has infulenced me alot in terms of how characters interact(well Index has too but to a lesser extent) the only thing with me is I like more humorous and slapstick type scenarios.
Its random, but out of curiosity does anyone know is Raiku Makoto has had any influences from others or has influenced others? (Aside from me of course)
^No idea, but isn't him the creator of Konjiki no Gash?
If I remember correctly Beelzebub was influenced by Zatch Bell in many ways. Could be wrong though, memory is a little hazy on that.
First when I see the title some rage builds up on me how the hell can someone say Hunter x Hunter = Naruto it is worlds apart story wise ^^... But I am wrong because the topic is like Naruto copying HxH ^^... I think in the manga world many people had copied styles from their idol/sensei because they are influence by it and it is very hard to have a manga that didn't have similarities with other manga nowadays... But still HxH >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> random good manga >>>>>>> Naruto(Sorry too dragging of the story really destroy this manga)
