Review is out (Here is a link for any who are interested)
The poll this week is about what will happen between Karaka and Ha Jinsung.
I'm really pleased with the ongoing development between Baam and this new group. I feel like that really turned around during this Zygaena arc. Even Wangan has grown on me quite a bit. It's nice to not feel like Baams new team is a lesser set of characters, just different ones.
That being said I still want Anak and Androssi back as soon as possible.
But that's not because these character aren't good. It's just that Anak and Androssi are so overwhelmingly great.
Wangnan still gets on my nerves, but the rest are good for comic relief.
The vast majority of the old cast were just filler characters like Ho who served one specific purpose. The main cast of the season one group were all more interesting than the season two group, other than perhaps Teddy because of the mystery surrounding him, although they did lack the comedy that the season two group has.

The season two group is also less serious, and while they're all for supporting Baam in his quest to keep the season one cast alive, as characters they weren't immediately as interesting or exciting as the season one cast. True, they were represented in a different arena as the season one guys got all of that development in the 2nd floor, whereas the introduction to the season two cast was in a test, but none of the season two cast have really stood out. SIU tried to make it sound like they should be highly thought of, such as his hints or comments about Wangnan in the afterwords, but that made them even fall flatter as SIU didn't deliver.
To me the real difference is the initial disadvantage part two's characters had in that Baam was introduced as being mysterious and closed off. And also that this is actually a single group; as opposed to part 1's which were in fact several groups that didn't really become unified until the final arc.
In terms of dramatic potential of the characters themselves though, I think the characters I mentioned are just as good. To be specific about it....
A father who failed couldn't protect his child. That haunts him but seems to motivate him as well. To him it seems like the team is quickly becoming a surrogate family.
Basically a child sent into the tower by her parents. We don't really know why but if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on heartbreaking. But similar to Arkraptor she's found a new family in this team
She's deeper than just some goofy character because of her underlying desperation to not be the failure that she thinks she is. This team is increasingly becoming somewhere she can be accepted, flawed or not; and that seems like it's new to her.
This team is a lot more closely knit than the team in part 1. Where most members didn't really trust one another, and rightly so. I don't think any member of this team would abandon any member of the group, which I think opens up huge avenues for drama.
now i find Wangnan, teddy, akraptor ,yeon more interesting than most of the guys of the part 1 team. the 2 princess of the part 1 were boring to me.
I'll grant that none of part two's cast really had a very good introduction but I definitely feel that since Baam started to connect to his new group (which was later than I would have liked but earlier than I expected) my empathy for all of them has deepened considerably. I don't really view the drama as artificial but rather intrinsic too who these characters are and in no way lesser than almost all of the previous group.
I'd say this arc is the first time I thought there was chance for Tower of God to avoid a kind of new Coke situation. Where you have a "bad group" and "good group".
Now they just seem like different groups to me. Nothing more, nothing less.

I suppose in some ways, our different view points are just two ways of stating the same thing, just in positive or negative manners, with mine probably being the negative one.
If season's two cast had a solid introduction like Koon, Rak, Leesoo, Hatsu, Anak, or Androssi, perhaps I'd be more attached to them. They were just thrown at us and even when Baam did connect with them, it seemed as if it still wasn't fully there as the threat of Jinsung was still hanging over them.
In a way, if we're going to use that "new Coke" analogy, I would say that SIU's failing the season two cast. They're just not as awesome, and while they have some bright points, they're not as good of a complete package. SIU does seem to be implying that we'll see more of a team battle and try to bring them more together per that afterword a bunch of chapters ago where he mentioned more battles with actual positions. I can't believe that all he would've meant was just Lightbringers using Lighthouses in combination with some form of striker.
Perhaps it's that our season one guys were more different and varied and that there was more to each character, at least in my mind. We got something important about each of our seven primary characters in season one right after and/or during their introductions, whereas a lot of the season two guys were left fairly flat and then a detail came out here or there, but because they weren't approached in a serious manner in the beginning, it wasn't the same. Yihwa can sort of become a serious character as time goes on, but SIU's not going to completely abandon the comic relief bit he's used her for so far. It's not that the season one guys didn't have comic relief or anything, but the characters all filled at least two roles, not just one, which a lot of the season two guys seem to do.

In the end, no matter how I rationalize it, I just like the S1 characters more than the S2 guys. There was just something I liked about Koon, Androssi, Hatsu, and Leesoo that I don't find when I compare the admittedly less developed S2 characters to my beloved S1 characters.
I wasn't a huge fan of Anak or Rak, but they were just part of the scenery and they added on to the primary band. None of them were just hanging around being utterly worthless/useless like Miseng or Goseng, so...
well because Yeon has a short temper. you can easily manipulate someone who has a short temper.
Its a Good thing that Yeon finally joined the grp, i am sure Baam will need her company to open up.
it just occurred to me:
What if Hwa Ryun has her own agenda for climbing with Baam, like a grudge against somebody, and want's to kill him/her, therefore joining FUG ???
well the fact that we dont know any thing about Hwa i think the whole notion of her joining FUG or doing something for higher cause is more or less long shot prediction.
i mean on what basis do we found any of our prediction about her? we have none.
Hmm... I don't know if that was mentioned already but I think that SIU is aiming for the S1 cast to merge with Agero's and Viole's team and thus forming a group of climbers, who are going their own path.
They'll indirectly become "Zahard and the ten great families" with Wangnan as their "head". Since the ring indicates that he is Zahard's successor...
