It's a new award made by japanese bookstore managers. Nominees are "recent" series (<8 tankobons). Last year winner was silver spoon
And how do they claim the winner of the Taishou award?
Is it just a personal preference or based on the opinion of the quality? Which series exceeded their expectations? what does the the award symbolize?
Debating the quality of shows based on the time they air is silly. Compare the quality of specific shows, not blocks of time. A few crap Jump adaptions (like Medaka Box) probably are not the best basis for comparison either. Even then, you would need to have watched the show to make any sort of quality judgment. It is impossible to form an opinion about something you have never seen.

Well, the Shonen Jump website has just been updated as of a little after 1pm.
To tell you the truth, it's nothing very special. It's just a rebranding and the rest of the new stuff as mentioned on this list was already announced prior to the rebranding. Apart from One Punch Man, no new series had been announced to start running in the magazine.

i participates and hope it does well enough to get a world wide release. i read all the scanlations so i'm not bothered by a english only version. i guess scanlations for the "alpha" series are a week sooner, but not really necessary anymore for US citizens. Enough time to support lesser known series, but probably not the goal of these fast scanlators...
New series starting in Issue #10 & #11:
- Koi wo Suru Edison - (author of Meruhen Ouji Grimm)
- World Trigger - (author of Kashikoi Inu Ririentaru)
Jump Issue #9 Information
Shokugeki no Soma first chapter ranked 4th and will have a Center Colour next week. Kiruko is 8th from the the top.

Looks like the Shueisha insider from last week was the real thing (again):
Author of Grimm, Author of Ririentaru
Hungry Joker chapter 2 ranked last place in the questionnaires

I don't believe it. Another gag manga?
Kurogane canceled to debut this manga called "Trigger Keeper"?
