Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Even two years later, Kosei hasn’t touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to.
I get your point, Kaori certainly is a sincere and helpful girl (we have seen that many times, just take all the beatings Kousei gets from her ), but maybe you're putting too much thought into this. Yes she obviously wanted him to see his concert, because she recognized him as the child prodigy Arima Kousei. He was a celebrity and she obviously knew about it, mainly thanks to her parents, or so it seems at the current point of the scanlations. That's all the reason she needs. "What would a prodigy like Arima Kousei say about my performance? Would it move him?". Isn't that her main reason for performing, wanting to make others never forget her? It's only natural that she would feel even more curious about how a celebrity and fellow musician like Arima would react. The rest with his backstory etc followed shortly after, when she appointed him his accompanist on a whim (prolly again because of a "curious why he was gone 2 years/he has to be good/I know that dude already, would be a hassle to find someone else now" mix). I really don't think there was much more about it at first, but ofc there might be a story to it at some point. It could be that they had something like a connection in the past, considering how Kousei hardly cared about anyone but his mother at a certain point, but I don't think this was planned out or anything, maybe just a little extra motivation for Kaori.
Oh and by the way, this sentence right there:
"Why would you even care about what Kousei thinks about you?" is probably my question for Kaori in this scenario. What I've been implying is, while I still believe in the fact that the day they met each other was a miraculous coincidence, I still tend to believe Kaori had plan when she invited Kousei. It's not necessarily a plan carefully devised for 2 years or something (I don't believe that's possible considering Kaori's traits) but it's just she had the goal to "heal" Kousei the moment they met. And honestly Kaori's crush for Watari was something that I... could not believe after witnessing what Kaori had done for Kousei.Originally Posted by naruto-niichan

Awesome series, I caught up to the ch43 today after starting the manga yesterday and to be honest from how ch43 goes, I think Kaori dies. I'm awaiting confirmation from ch44 though.
