Because they're not sissies, who rely on ninjutsu or genjutsu .
The Hyuuga have Psuedo mind reading abilities. The Byakugan gives the greatest insight into the nature of the opponent's chakra. Also Depending on the skill on the user t they can more accurately predict what their opponent is going to do. I'm just BS'ing IDK, I just wanted to open up creative discussion on what could possibly make them the strongest when they appear to be so weak.
I came up with a theory already about why the Hyuuga is the strongest and what their secret is relating to their doujutsu. I decided to delete it and wait a bit longer before posting it again.

They are weak because none of them have main character status.
But seriously they are strong. The Gentle Fist itself should end most of ninja in the series. Hell in the recent chapter we saw one Hyuuga single-handedly stop a hand of the Juubi. Add that to the fact that they can perceive chakra a lot better than the other two dojutsu and they can release chakra from any point in their body and you've got a pretty powerful ninja. If the Sharingan didn't have that evolution crap that screws up the power scaling then the Hyuuga would indeed be the actual strongest in Konoha. Then again they technically are cause the Uchiha Clan doesn't exist anymore.
Hiashi air-palmed the Juubi.
Of course they are the strongest
What makes the hyuuga clan weak is that they are to naive to step out of the clan and learn other jutsu.
Sasuke Has three elements and a master of two. Sasuke has A rank and S rank jutsu outside his clan by taking advantage of his elements.
Hyuuga element maybe wind since they can do air palm( just speculating), but if not they have no known elements that can give the the elemental advantage over their opponents.
Hyuuga style of fighting is close range, if they end of fighting a opponent that can match there close range, the lose cause basic they have no versatility....
This is a half joke but you can take the weakest member of the Uchiha clan(that his name was mention at least three times in the manga) and probably destroy the strongest members of the hyuuga clan.... It's hard to seperate the weakest Uchiha cause they all do the same jutsu and have the same fighting style.
I believe the Nara clan would give the hyuuga clan a run for there money IF all of them are strategy genius lol.
Jokes aside, Uchihas weren't all better since they were showed to be noobs capable only of Katons, there is a reason why Itachi thought the clan was useless.
Its also unfair to use Sasuke as a measurement stick, since he's no normal Uchiha either, he's a genius
Just stopped to remind everyone that if a random Hyuuga and a random Uchiha (neither genius) got into a taijutsu fight, the Uchiha would dance a marathon within the deepest, darkest corner of the Hyuuga's gaping anus.
Colorful analogy aside, the likely only reason the Hyuuga clan aren't licking the boots of the Uchiha clan is because they were one of the groups that were among the Senju clan before the Uchiha came around. Remember, the Uchiha ran around putting boots to asses until they came to the Senju. And the Senju is made up of multiple clans.
That made me laugh so hard. I will say though, the Hyuga clan's Byakugan does give them an advantage in regard to defense against Genjutsu. Ao is a good example of this. The guy not only went up against one of the most broken Uchiha clan members to date, he survived and was able to correctly analyze his ability because of the Byakugan. A guy that was known as "one of the most powerful Genjutsu users of the clan." As we all should know by now, Genjutsu is the Uchiha's bread and butter. I'd say if the Hyūga clan wasn't all about Taijutsu, they'd stand a good chance against the Uchiha.

the hyuugas are weak because kishi doesn't show any love for the byakugan..
@KiSwordsman: Well to be fair, Ao just saw the change in chakra that took place within Mifune's body. There's nothing that says he could tell that the Genjutsu was being used on himself. And even if he could, escaping could be impossible. Sasuke and Itachi knew they were paralyzed by a Genjutsu but couldn't escape until they overpowered the Genjutsu cast on eachother using their own Genjutsu. Naruto knew he was caught by a Genjutsu from Itachi and still never escaped.
That said I was referring to Taijutsu alone. The Hyuuga being Taijutsu specialists won't matter unless their Taijutsu is delivered at such an insane amount of speed the Uchiha couldn't predict and defend against it. The chakra emitting from their fingertips would be a telltale sign of danger aswell.
The most powerful gentusu are Mangekyo exclusive, something an average Uchiha would not have achieved.
The most power ninjutsu are Mangekyo exclusive, again, something an average Uchiha would not have achieved.
I'm mostly arguing against your "half-joke" since you are half-serious. You seem to of the idea that all of the Uchiha are at Sasuke levels of proficiency with their eyes when we have barely seen any of the other members fight. I believe that an average Hyuuga has a chance at winning than an average Uchiha. They probably won't win 100% of the time, but it definitely isn't the one-sided curbstomp you're making it out to be.
It really sad after part 1 hyuugas being the strongest clan of konoha with their kekkei genkai(byakugan), and the they became weaker than the other eyes techniques with any progress for their eyes
In all honesty I've always believed from the early days that the Hyuuga were the strongest clan in Konoha after the Senju and Uchiha. I just can't seem to bring myself to take the other clans in the village serious, i.e. Inuzuka, Akimichi, etc, apart from the Aburame and Nara clans. Even the Sarutobi clan doesn't have anything going for it (apart from Konohamaru, he's a promising prospect). I have this faint glimmer of hope in my heart that the Hyuuga clan can pull through and do something of significance in this war, or even the remainder of the story before it comes to a close but in the farthest reaches of my mind I know that this isn't going to be the case; especially since one of our truest prodigies has left us for the pure world.
The rest lies on your shoulders Hanabi, do us proud.
