Okay, I've been waiting for someone to start a thread about Magi's characters and their designs. But I think I have to initiate this
This is the thread to discuss all about Magi Characters and their Design!!
We all know how beautiful and lovely Ohtaka Shinobu's designs for her characters, but have you observed them, not just as a plain character, but also the different cultures it resembles in the real world? or how each character relates from one another?
That's why I made this thread to hear your opinions and theories about them
You can also post in this thread the unknown/unshown characters that has been in Ohtaka's WebSunday blog.
(There's a lot of them!)
BUT BEWARE OF SPOILERS
So let's all start the discussion
Talking about original concepts and sketches
Nee, what do you think? You can share your findings too!

Nice finds Alpha; they're really awesome.
If Aladdin was a girl, she would have been really sexy.
Anyway I like the gladiator and female warrior concept, but I think that the current story is still very serious.
About the rest, Abhmad and Sabhmad realy are different from their original concepts, as well as Sinbad.
If Aladdin was to be revealed as a girl later in the series, I would hit my head on the wall
Anyway... I want to revive this thread though... I want others to share their thoughts about the character designs...
Pisti and Spartos's original design concept...
I wonder how will Aladdin react if Pisti was actually like this. And Spartos as woman! *shot*

Concept art for Judal I guess XD it's cute, he seems somewhat younger to me...
Someone translated this thing on her backstage blog saying that she wanted to give him a new outfit since he's turned 19 (I hope so) I love it when characters get new outfits, it's like getting refreshed.
I wonder what kind of outfit change will she give for Judar
He looked like Hakuryuu on the first one
I liked more the final concept of Pisti and Spartos; perhaps Aladdin would have said something different about this matter. LOL
Anyway Judar dosen't seem to have changed too much.
It would be really cool if Spartos was a woman, and I actually thought he was a woman when I saw the cover panel with all the eight generals on it. I read somewhere that Ohtaka likes adding female characters, but because she's writing in a shonen magazine she ends up having to make them male. That makes me sad.
Either way, her designs are really amazing. I love the little touches, like Sphintus's snake, Sinbad's ahoge, it just adds so much more character. I also love how the fanalis all have heavily stylized eyes and eyelashes. It makes everything a lot more richer.
I can't find it now, but I saw Yamuraiha's original design too. She had black hair and more of a goth appearance. I got the impression Ohtaka developed Sharrkan and Yamuraiha at the same time. The black hair and pale skin would have really contrasted against Sharrkan's white hair and dark skin.
^I saw it too. But I can't remember if it was included in her websunday blog. Yamu in her original concept was somewhat like a punk and looked really badass
I think her designs were really simple, yet full of details! I love it when she adds those little jewelries in her characters, like those of in Ja'Far and Yamu's foreheads, and those gold/brass rings around Judar's necks and arms.
But what I wanted to know is on where does she get her design concepts for the Djinn equips like that of Kougyoku's djinn equip

Woah Hamu looks so hot xD I wonder why they decided to not use that design
Thanks for posting these.
Aladdin is the only who changed so much from his first design.
Haha, good thing she changed Titus' little top hat into a
sortingwitch/magician hat. I like Jamil's first concept than the recent/current one. I think he looked like a really stupid spoiled jerk to me
If Aladdin was a girl, and there's Mor, I think Alibaba would definitely get his Harem hohohh

Isn't there a boy symbol with the Aladdin one? He sure does look like a girl in that though..
That little Titus and Aladdin? Sketch on Titus's concept makes me sad.
Thanks for posting those
