In the latest chapter, Kakashi said that he blames himself for his student's shortcomings. Where do you think he went wrong with his students? What should/could he have done otherwise?
For me, i think he went wrong at the chunin exam. In the bell, test, the team was shown to have terrible teamwork and they never really passed the test. Then against Haku and Zabuza, neither Sasuke nor Naruto were able to kill Haku despite their training. Sakura didnt even do shit. Then at the first opportunity he gets, he sends his student's into a life threatening test as if they actually proved themselves. >.>
He shouldve followed what Gai did and waited a year so that his students were more ready. They only had 2 real ninja encounters prior to the exam -_-
First of all, the lack of attention towards Naruto when he should've been trained more properly because he has the most potential, beating Sasuke's. Sasuke was already a prodigy he didn't need to be taught much. The lame excuse for teaching Chidori was the one that irked me. I mean, how is he similar to you, Kakashi when everything in his mind is all about revenge. He should've known from the start that Sasuke could have a dangerous mindset.
Second, the attention towards the 3 students weren't evened out. Thus, creating a rift unintentionally. As for Sakura, not gonna comment on that, I think everybody knows.
All in all, even though he had the best of intentions, & tried to do his best, he utterly failed. Hell, even Yamato would've made a better sensei for them.
Fault number 1- Kakashi knew that Sasuke was after Itachi, he knew Sasuke's thirst for revenge and yet he decided to teach him a dangerous move like Chidori.
Fault number 2- He wasn't able to stop Sasuke leaving Konoha, he couldn't protect Sasuke from Orochimaru's influence. Can't really blame him on that since it's Orochimaru afterall, but Kakashi's influence failed against Oro's.
Fault number 3 -He didn't understand that his asymmetric teaching of Naruto and Sasuke would only create tension between them.
Fault number 4 - He lied to Sakura that everything is going to be all right and Team 7 will be re-united. Here he took Sakura like a little child and underestimated her abilities of facing reality(deep down, she kinda knew things won't be the same)
Fault number 5 - He didn't give enough attention to Naruto. I mean, he could have trained them both at the same time, it's not rocket science to teach 2 people at once lol
As a teacher, a sensei, Kakashi would have led Sasuke to a right path instead of giving him a 1 minute speech, but he really didn't do shit.
That's why Kakashi is blaming stuff on himself.
Well in Kakashi's defense I think what he ment was that he and Sasuke had a similar fighting style, and they both had an affinity for lightning. And even though it is a dangerous jutsu to teach someone Sasuke's age, he wouldn't have been able to challenge Gaara in the Chunin exams without it. None of Sasuke's jutsus up to that point would've pierced through that ball of sand he was in.Quote:
Despite of the shortcomings already stated it was inevitable that Sasuke would turn down this path. Sasuke's whole point of existence from part 1 was revenge, and even during his fight with Gaara during Oro's invasion (which was his without a doubt when his moral compass was pointing the straightest) it was Gaara's taunting his hatred that made him stronger.
Now as for Sakura and Naruto however, Kakashi could have done a lot more. He was the first to notice Sakura's talent for genjutsu. He really should've nurtured that ability more instead of focusing on keeping Sasuke's head straight. If he had she probably would've been at Kurenai's level of genjutsu by now. Sure she could never compete with a sharingan user but to everyone else she would be a force to be reckoned with.
And he could've spent more time with Naruto teaching him the essentials of being a ninja and get him to refine his taijutsu style more. That way Jiraiya wouldn't have had to to spend those two and half years teaching him that stuff and spent more time on controlling the kyubi. In the end it's just a shame that the only student he did a good job of teaching was hell bent on revenge before he even became a ninja.
edit: On second thought Naruto should've learned that shit in the god damn ninja academy. Jesus Kishi it's one thing to make your protagonist stupid and optimistic, but at least make him good at his craft.

Kakashi went wrong because he cared for Sasuke, but he didn't become the role model Sasuke needed, and that is probably because Kakashi probably has huge walls around himself regarding his personal feelings. They should have had lengthy conversations about Uchiha and Sharingan and the things they have in common, as well as Kakashi guiding Sasuke in a way that helped him deal with his pain, since Kakashi knows all about losing everyone he loved. Instead, Kakashi kept Sasuke at a distance and kept things strictly business. If he had nurtured a stronger bond with Sasuke, as Iruka did with Naruto, it might have been easier for Sasuke to keep his head on straight. As it was, Sasuke was always still all alone, always with his own agenda. I know that since the story is very Japanese, and the mentality is different in that culture, but in all seriousness Sasuke needed therapy.
And Kakashi just sat back and left the job of healing Sasuke's wrecked emotions to Sakura and Naruto, who never really got close enough to him even though it was apparent that they had started to.
And then even after Orochimaru entered the scene, did anyone even talk to Sasuke and explain what they knew about him? Never.
Kakashi failed Sakura because he never even acknowledged her, her strength, or her intelligence. He just treated her like a little and let her do whatever she wanted and never guided her to become more than what she was.
With Naruto, Kakashi never even spoke of Minato, even though it's obvious that Kakashi knew a lot about him. Even when it was clear that Naruto had a lot of respect for the fourth, Kakashi never mentioned anything to him.
Kakashi never created a strong personal bond with any of them, which is what a teacher is supposed to do. Kakashi was not a teacher, he was an instructor. The difference? Teachers care, instructors don't.
That's not to say that he DIDN'T actually care, but he never really showed it. He was all about business. It was his job to keep them alive and help them hone their skills, and he really only did that with Sasuke in the first place.
WTF is up with all the above posters, u guys just stole everything i had to say..... Grrrrrrr!!!
Anyways, i'll just summarise my points... Kakashi showed too much attention towards sasuke(he was already perfect... Somewhat)...
Showed liltle attention towards naruto's growth as a nin, should have tried to make him have more brains in fighting and could have improved his taijustu skills(that would have been perfect)...
And sakura, what should i say?... She was totally neglected and didn't get as much as two glances from her sensei!... SHOULD have improved her genjustu skills and made her become a tad bit helpful in the team...
And i love kusachu's post as it went past what we were seeing in the manga and how emotionally things could have been better(proves females really know things about emotions... I can never think that deep)
Lol sorry man I know the feeling. I'd probaly have a lot more posts on this website if not for that very reason.Quote:
By arriving late at most of the team gatherings, all those hours count up and they could have been used to find the teams strengths and weaknesses and possibly work so those weaknesses then become strengths.
I know the reason Kakashi was late due to the fact that he was mourning at Obito's grave but nevertheless Kakashi could try not to lose track of time and possibly like a recent poster stated he could have opened up to the team about why Kakashi is late and doesn't let any members of his team die etc. henceforth making a strong personal relationship which could have been vital in the near future; possibly stopping Sasuke from going.
It's probably when he focused on Sasuke during the chunin exam and trained him only, leaving Naruto to the weak Ebiso. Luckily for Naruto that Jiraya noticed him back then, Kakashi didn't even realize that Naruto's chakra control was messed up by Orochimaru's seal, However, Gai's students have a far greater teamwork than Kakashi's students, so Kakashi's fault would be that he never tried to train them together as a sensie ought to do, as a result, nothing changed as they grew up, everyone remained fighting for a personal reason...
Speaking of Gai, now that's how you teach. Gai saw that the greatest potential lied in Lee not Neji. Same thing with Naruto & Sasuke. It's only a shame they didn't get paired up with a better Kunoichi at the time. That way, Sasuke can train with the 3rd member.
I disagree with Gai noticing that Lee had more potential then Neji but what was noticed is that a genius should not be getting more help then a person who can only improve through hardwork.
Oh, yeah you're right about that. I agree with you..... that's what Kakashi should've done. I think if Yamato was the sensei for them, he may do something similar. It would also cross Yamato's mind that Naruto may need Kyuubi training. That way, the team could've grown into the most powerful genin team in Konoha. & the fact how well Yamato noticed hints on Sakura & Naruto's feelings makes me think that he could've built a strong personal bond with them than Kakashi could've done.
grading - F
he failed as a competent teacher
he had a favourite
he disregarded other students in favour of Sasuke(how many jutsus has he tought to naruto and sakura?)
he failed to re-educate sasuke
as a teacher kakash is a total disgrace
oh and constantly getting late, WHAT THE HELL is with constantly being late? and I don't want to hear any BS about this being tribute to Obito, if he wants to show respect to the fallen comrade why notjust go to that KIA stone and bring some damn flowers
and where, may I ask, did you find any indication that ebisu is weak? losing against PAIN-SAMA?

The first thing I would say is Kakashi showed too much favortism. As a teacher, thats something you can not do. Even after the white fangs son heard Naruto beat the impossible Neji, Kakashi never even said good job. Kakashi is brilliant, and knew the weakness of his team, but barely addressed them. Still to this day, Kakashi has barely taught Sakura anything.
Kakashi never even taught his team what it means to be strong. He knew Sasuke was scarred with hatred, and could assest that Sasuke believed hatred fuels strength. If Kakashi would of imbedded true strength comes from protecting your love ones in his team, Sasuke may have turned out a bit different. Naruto had to learn it from a tranny, Sakura knows it instinctively, and Sasuke is yet to know or understand.
Kakashi never had a man to man talk with Naruto about getting his priorites straight. He has just been a yes man to all of Naruto's riduculous Sasuke requests. He also knows Naruto wants to be Hokage, yet he hasn't put Naruto in any situations to lead, or has given him any advice on how to be a good leader.
With Kakashi, its the same thing I say about Sarutobi. They were both passive observers on many occasions
omg how can all of you bash kakashi this much? it wasnt his mistake that sasuke turned out a psycho. honestly, do you really believe he could be able to change sasuke's heart in any way?
his favorizm over sasuke is not the actual cause either, and obviously its not something that normally turns someone into a villian.from that logic naruto should have turned into a villian because he had all the reasons to be jelaous of sasuke.
if kakashi didnt favor sasuke ,sasuke would leave the village even earlier. his only purpose was to get strong enough to beat itachi so kakashi showing him special treatment wasnt anything bad at that time.
if kakashi taught naruto and sakura equaly as he did to sasuke, sasuke would feel the need to leave the village even earlier because he would think, "this 2 suckers are closing the gap between us,it means i'm not improving as much as i need to"
if special treatment is the biggest miskate a teacher can make , why dont you go check Gai-Lee ? well to be precise ,ofcourse its not something good but it has nothing to do with sasuke turning evil in the end
