Yes, the season is pretty much over, but there are a lot of bowl games still to be played. Since people won't care about most of them, and there are far too many to create individual threads for... bitch about the BCS and how crappy it is!!!

To get off of NFL-- just because I want to talk College and haven't been keeping up with the national league this year very well--...

Ohio State and U of M should have had a rematch in the championship game instead of Florida State and Ohio State. That was depressing, considering U of M would have had the game back in November if we'd played a cleaner, better first half. You can't play half a game, you have to play the full game, and unfortunetly that's what the Wolverines did :/ (I go to U of M, so this might just be loyalty speaking :P)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk college football in this thread or not, so sorry if I'm in the wrong place!
Heya SiretaInDisguise :) Well, as your loyalty to Michigan may have been a reason for your disappointment at Michigan not being picked to play in the national championship game, I think for the same reasons my fondness of the SEC made me glad to see Florida in the main game. (Even though, as a Tennessee fan, I absolutely hate Florida.)

I mean, it's not like Michigan didn't have their chance at Ohio State, and I would have thought it would have been absolutely unfair for OSU to have played Michigan again that soon. You know the saying, "it's hard to beat a good team twice?" I think Michigan would have had a tremendous advantage going into the national championship game.

I think that this illustrates why we do need a playoff in CF though. Nobody would complain if Michigan had to work hard to get back to the big dance by having to beat other teams throughout a playoff of some sort.

That's why I felt Florida deserved to go, because they had a tougher time surviving the SEC, the toughest conference in the nation, than Michigan did the Big Ten.

But I'll definitely be interested in how Michigan does against USC. That should be a good game too.

Btw Venom, aren't you happy? Your Florida State Seminoles actually kicked UCLA's collective butt yesterday.

I'm hoping that my Tennessee Vols will do the same to Penn State on New Year's. They should...

I'm rooting for Tennessee over Penn State myself, GK :P

Well, I suppose you're right on that aspect. They have playoffs for High School football and the NFL, so why don't they have it for College football? I've never understood that :/ And your point about Florida struggling is a good thing too-- I completely overlooked that. It's just that Michigan should have had that game against Ohio State! Yes, we rebounded in the last half, but we still made a lot of stupid mistakes that may have potentially saved us the game... all we needed was a stupid field goal and we could have gone into overtime. :/ *sigh*

I'll definently be watching the Tenessee game and the Michigan game, so hopefully I'll be back here ranting and raving about some other topic.

That was a pretty close game. I do agree that Michigan gave Ohio State the most trouble of any team this year, I think.

Yay ^^

Yea, I'm happy, I just wish that team was here all year.

We finally did a few things right. Jeff actually let Booker touch the ball, we tried throwing high and deep to our freakishly tall WR's, and except for that one INT early, Weatherford didn't make any stupid throws.

HELL, FREAKIN' BOBBY BOWDEN ACTUALLY DID SOME COACHING!!

I know we've had injuries and all this year, but that's not an excuse, we showed how well we can play against UCLA.

Anyway, I am excited for next year, Bobby has to make probably the most important decision he's had in years at FSU, picking a new O-Coordinator. Seems like he wants the guy from LSU. (I forget his name.) We'll see what happens. I want to see Bobby have us right again before he goes if he can, but another year of this crap... and it'll be time to move on.

HOLY MOLEY!!! YOU DON'T SAY!!! lol.

Well, I'm sure he HAD to coach, he didn't want to be saddled with his first losing season, ever! :amuse

Anyway, I do see improvements for the FSU but I don't think Weatherford is a very good quarterback. Either he's got to improve or they need help at that position.

And I think the LSU coach's name is Oregdon or something like that. Did they fire him already?

He isn't going to be fired as far as I know... but I guess Bobby will make him an offer he can't refuse. :jk

By the way, Bobby's first year at FSU was a losing season.

And I don't know what to think of Weatherford, sometimes he does well, sometimes he's awful, doesn't seem to have much inbetween. Either way, he'll be the starter next year I'm sure, so we'll have to hope he improves.

Ah.. the way ESPN made it sound, it seemed like it was going to be his first losing season. Guess it HAS been a while though... like 70 years or something? :p

We'll see.

1976, so 30 years... it's ok if you don't remember, most other people don't either![br]Posted on: December 29, 2006, 11:36:04 PM_________________________________________________The most over rated team in sports this year? Notre Dame. They played 3 good teams this year, and got destroyed 3 times. They played a lot of average to bad teams... and really had to work to beat a lot of them too.

I hope people will get over the whole Charlie Weis thing now...

I think the over rated team in sports this year isn't Notre Dame. It's Ohio State.

So much, much, much hype all year, all Christmas season, and what does the terrifying Buckeyes have to show it after the National Championship game?

A fat 41-14 LOSS.

Damned if I'll ever buy into the hype again ever again. I didn't even give Florida a chance myself either, but I'll always go for the SEC team from here on whenever one makes it to the big game. The SEC is just too good. Whoever wins the SEC as long as they have less than two losses (and if no other teams in the polls are undefeated) should always make it to the national championship game, I don't care who you are, USC, Ohio State, get out of there!

Auburn should have made it to the national championship game three years ago, so yeah, I'm bitter. They would have probably won it, too!

Anyway, congrats to Florida. For one night the Gators actually made a fan out of me. That ends tomorrow though, and I'm back to being a Volunteers fan, heh. (Oh, by the way, the Vols only lost to the Gators by 1, heh. Wasn't our only loss, but darn it, that was a big one early on.) It's a good time to be a Gators fan - first their men's basketball team wins the championship and now their football team. Jeez.

Re: FLORIDA FOOTBALL

I don't blame you for being excited, twilight deity link, heh.

Yeah, Florida impressed me big time tonight. I already talked about it in the College Football thread.

Re: FLORIDA FOOTBALL

Florida won? and by that big a margin? ah oh, here come the bcs haters, like me. I like the quote on the espn front page:
"The first 16 seconds of the BCS title game? All Ohio State. The rest of Monday night? All Florida in a 41-14 shocker"

edit: could have swore this was in the sports section, probably should be merged with the college football thread

There's BCS haters everywhere. I think the only people right now who are advocates of the BCS are the bowl organizers.

There's a big question that comes out of this whole situation though, now that everybody's got a loss except Boise State, who really is the best team? We'll never know for sure now because Florida isn't going to play USC or Boise State or LSU. We can only speculate, and I hate that.

But it's obvious now Ohio State and Notre Dame are off the list.

Well, it's BEEN obvious ND isn't the best team for weeks. They played 3 good teams and got completely destroyed. They were lucky to get past Michigan State, they freakin' survived Georgia Tech. They let NORTH CAROLINA play them tough for 3 1/2 quarters AT HOME. Notre Dame was easily the most over rated team in sports this year.

Yes, a playoff would be fun as hell, Boise State, Florida, USC, and LSU duking it out for the chance to play for everything.

Sadly, too many college AD's are way to greedy, and who knows if it'll happen, ever.

And no, a "plus one" system does not work for me. That's BS.

And one other thing, this really should have been played before this weekend. This game is completely over shadowed by the NFL playoffs, and coaching changes. It's ridiculous that teams have this much time off between games... and they can't have a playoff. BS.

I'm not sure the college AD's are at blame for the whole thing - UT's college AD when we went to play Penn State, said that the trip actually wasn't that profitable because it took a lot of money just to make the preparations and the trip itself. They barely make enough to have a profit. 'Course I don't know if he was just BSing me or not, but it sounds as though he was being genuine. 'Course that's just the Outback Bowl, might be that the bigger bowls pay more. But overall I don't think it's all that profitable - at least for the colleges themselves that participate, more for the sponsors.

What I'd really like to see at least is for the top eight teams in the poll to battle it out in a playoff immediately following the end of all their seasons, and the rest of the teams in the poll can play in bowls if they want.

Well, a lot of schools make too much money from one bowl game to give them up. Sure a big time school like UT doesn't make much money from a "lesser" (if any game that doesn't count for anything can be better than another) bowl, then they would say, the Sugar Bowl, but the potential is there. These schools aren't going to turn that down.

Nevertheless, it's just not a good sport if there's no decided champion at the end of it.

I agree completely Phil. Until their is a playoff, college football will be my least favorite sport. I think it's a total joke we have an unbeaten team that probably won't be ranked in the top 5 in the final polls. We could of had a great second round with UF, LSU, Boise State, and USC, but we'll never know.

Think March Madness is nuts? A college football playoff would be insane. Ohio State had 51 days off between games, there was plenty of time to play. And it's Christmas break too, so none of that, they'll miss school crap. They aren't in school. I guess basketball players are smart enough to take a month off school though...

having march madness for football would be such a boon for the gambling rings around the country. I completely agree though. I just cant get into college football (not a huge fan of any college sports. I guess the pros do it for me) especially when virtually none of the bowl games matter at all.
