CDisplay - Comic Reader

Download CDisplay Here

The images may be in a zip, rar, ace or tar archive file - no need to decompress before reading. Just load it!!! :D

The Windows Image Viewer 'CDisplay' was written to ease the viewing of images in JPEG, PNG and static GIF format.
This was partly down to the existing programs currently available being too general purpose and thus awkward to use
when simply wanting to view images sequentially.

It was written using Borland C++ Builder 5.0 and has been tested under Windows 98, NT 4, 2000 and XP Tablet.

It is important to understand that this program has NO file write capabilities; files are left totally untouched.
A small amount of configuration data is written to the registry but apart from that the computer and its data is left untouched.

Features:

Loads JPEG, PNG and static GIF images which are automatically ordered and presented for viewing one at a time or two at a time.

The images may be in a zip, rar, ace or tar archive file - no need to decompress before reading.

Page through the images sequentially and scroll around pages with single key presses.

Automatic page sizing: none; fit to screen, fit to width of screen, fit to width of screen if oversized, display
at specific height, or display two pages. Resizing uses Lanczos interpolation for best picture quality.

Automatic colour balance and yellow reduction if desired.

No bloat caused by non-essential general purpose image processing features.

EDIT by Miso:
njt did a guide on how to configure CDDisplay for better use:

Ah nice, oytatoks.

I'm also using it and I don't want to miss it. It's become essential for my manga viewing pleasure.

Re: CDisplay - Comic Reader

sounds like a good program

*downloading*

ill tell you what i thought about it tomorrow

edit: now its tomorrow, I like it. simple and good.
love that you switch pages with the mouse scroller.
but a little annoying thing is that when a double page shows
up, you cant use the scroller.... i dont know if i missed that setting or something
but its annoying. leaning back enjoying a good berserk chapter and all of a sudden
when something cool happens I have to lean forward to look at the next page..
brings the feeling down. Other than that it was a great program.
I give it 8/10.

Did you check NJT's guide on configuring it? I found it useful. The link is at the bottom of the first post if you didn't. Another option I turned on, though, was Japanese mode, to make it feel more like reading real manga (with Pg. 1 being displayed on the right and pg. 2 being displayed on the left in Display Two Pages mode)

Re: CDisplay - Comic Reader

hey guys...
is it just me or CDisplay can't read zip files which have more zips in it? or is there some tricks to do it?

i was reading my eyeshield vol 1 zipfile, inside is another folder, and inside the folder is the zips of the chapters... but when i open it with CDisplay, it says, "no image files found"
do i have to extract it?

Yes, you do have to extract it. CDisplay can not read .zips inside of .zips or .rars inside of .rars.

Re: CDisplay - Comic Reader

so i'm just wondering, with a lot of people using CDisplay, do you guys extract all your mangas (those which batched as a volume) out? wouldn't that be messy?

well, CDisplay is certainly good for reading chapters by chapters, and it's easy to move from one chapter from another... but yeah, i had my mangas mostly batched into volume, so in most cases i stick to my ACDSee :D I use CDisplay to read hentais mostly :D

Re: CDisplay - Comic Reader

why would you extract them? most volumes dont come as one rar with all these rars in them. I only extract them if i get an error.

Also, why read ****** with one and not the other?

Re: CDisplay - Comic Reader

because with acdsee, most of the time u need 2 hands

lol i was just kidding about the ****** thingy :D

what i meant is that i batched most of my mangas in zips-in-zips...
therefore CDisplay can't read most of em....
i haven't actually tried, but can CDisplay read folders-in-zips?
like in a zip file, theres chapter 1 folder, chapter 2 folder and so on...

CDisplay can do this. However, it might be a bit messy... I'm pretty sure CDisplay displays all of the files in all of the folders in alphabetical order. Therefore, if the pages names are a bit off, you could get a page from Ch,. 3 displayed right next to a Ch. 1 page. But I'm not positive about that though.

FFView - Comic Reader For all you Mac users out there.

Do you use a mac? Probably not, but if you do, and you're into manga then you shoulud definitely download FFview at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/ffview.html
It reads zip, rar, cbz, cbr and many more common comic files. Also, if you're a mac user and you're feeling left out because you can't open rar files properly then go out and download UnRarX. http://www.unrarx.com/
This handy-dandy program will extract the files for you. Now, you don't feel as left out do you? :smile-big

If you guys use Linux, I recommend QComicbook. Download it from http://qcomicbook.horisone.com/
No need to extract compressed files. It reads .zip .rar .tar .tgz. cbz etc (virtually all if you install all the necessary plugins)
It also reads pictures from a normal directory (duh!)

The pictures will be automatically thumbnailed and has the option for fullscreen.

What's nice is the bookmark feature. I can bookmark a page for later viewing. This is useful especially if you are reading multiple manga. It reduces the hassle of finding the correct page to continue where you left.

Features? I took this from the author's homepage http://linux.bydg.org/~yogin/
QComicBook is a viewer for comic book archives containing jpeg/png images, which aims at convenience and simplicity. Features include:

* automatic handling of archives (uses external utilities) with drag and drop support
* very fast image loading (thanks to Imlib2); images are preloaded in advance in separate thread
* full-screen mode
* two-pages mode and japanese (aka manga) mode
* thumbnails view
* page scaling (fit to window witdth/height, whole page)
* mouse or keyboard navigation, whatever you prefer
* bookmarks
* and more...
I believe Qcomicbook is more advanced than CDisplay.

Other alternatives for linux users out there are Comix and Comical (http://comical.sourceforge.net/)

Is there a Windows version of QComicbook?
I think no, I checked the homepage. Anyone know other ComicReader other than CDisplay?
