A lot of members here already noticed I think, but I am a huge fan of mafia movies, especially "the godfather". I was shocked when I saw that there was no SINGLE THREAD about the mafia...

Well, talk about the mafia here, as much as you like, maybe I can find a few members who are willin' to be my "Capo"

Well, here you go. You say a crime syndicate, I say an alternative way to earn money j/k

Okay, what they do (killin' people and blackmail them, dealing drugs etc) I really disagree on, but how about the norms and values within the mafia (especially the old and traditional mafia): honor, loyalty, religion. It is really something you know

And what about the movies: Godfather, casino, donny brasco, the untouchables.

the movies are often great, cant argue with that.

about the other stuff, yeah most of the mafias have lots of honour within themselves
but that doesnt justify any of the really really bad things they do to people.
so i cant say that im a fan of the mafias, none of em.
but hey thats my opinion. youre entitled to yours.

It is not like I justify what they do, or things like that. I am really a fan of the movies, and the norms and values within the mafia.

However, what they do I think is cruel, and unjustified... but still to read about them, and how well organized they are is pretty fascinating.

But for the others who read this thread: How do you think about the mafia, and have you watched those movies?

Italian mafia used to be the most powerful one and it's still the most famous.
But, as an italian, it's not something I'm very proud of...

No, it's true, but hey, we talk here about the other side of the mafia, the "better" side of it.

mafia movies! now that i can talk a lot about!

and the mother of them all: the godfather. damn thats a good movie!
i don perticularly like the second and third but the first is such a masterpiece.
what else do we have thats good.... Donnie Brasco, that one kicks some serious ass!
and more, well its not exactly a mafia movie but still. Scarface, gooooood movie.

Hmm I didn't install the game yet. Too busy lately.
Is it worth it?

And a propos Movies , don't remember the GodFather well ( too young when i watched it last time ), but one of my favorites is Scarface (don't know if it can be classify as Mafia movie, still kinda like a mafia war though ), it just kicks ass.

I never gived a damn about the Sopranos , but after watching the 2 first season on DVD , woooooow i'm so going to download the rest of it. That serie is just AWESOME.

The game is pretty nice, but to be honest I would never buy it or something for the current price...

Yeah, Scarface is a good movie, but it dissapointed me a bit, the story and other things, but the things they said in that movie where fukcing awesome... w00t!!

Damn but never seen Goodfellas.... damn I really embarras (spelling) myself... Is it a good movie? Some say it is even better than godfather.

Godfather 2 is also very good, maybe even better as the first one. I like the fact that

they are going back to the time that vito was just a normal civilian, and how he became the godfather as we know today

And yeah, it is Yakuza, but a yakuzi is also nice right

The Godfather: A masterpiece. I like it very much
especially the way they kill their enemies and the way they send the message. e.g "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes".

Godfather II: A good movie although a bit slow. Really like the scene of Don Vito before becoming the 'Don'.

Godfather III: The storyline is slow. I just fall asleep.

Untouchables: The first mafia movie I watched. Great movie and full of action.

This maybe off topic but there is a Yakuza film titled 'brother' starring takeshi kitano & omar epps. It's a good film to me and I get the first glimpse about yakuza especially in the early scenes.

Goodfellas- Good film, adapted from the book Gangsters and Goodfellas: Wiseguys, Witness Protection and Life on the Run by Henry Hill, which is an account of his life O.O! Shocking!

I've only seen the first Godfather.

I only want to write, that Godfather is the best mafia film I ever I saw second and third, but:

Godfather II: A good movie although a bit slow. Really like the scene of Don Vito before becoming the 'Don'.

Godfather III: The storyline is slow. I just fall asleep.

I agree, they were slow in story progress..
