How first off don't get me wrong, I love Naruto, I've been watching the anime since the first season and have read and watched it ever since.
But I've noticed some things lately. I'm good friends with an owner of a anime store in Kansas City and I'm always at the store hanging out.
As Naruto progressed more and more people because interested it, which is great of course. But I've noticed that because of that alot of other series have been pushed to the wayside or just plain forgotten. At the anime store (called Mo Iikai....because of the an end song in Naruto) we dub it the DBZ syndrome.
An action anime comes out and it wipes the floor with everything out and other anime suffers because of it.
To add insult to injury a lot of the fans of the show (and this is just what I've observed from the store) don't truly appreciate it. We here at the forums get in involved talks about things and even delve into speed theories.. But the avearge watcher can barely apperciate the characters. I've heard people complain about Oro and how he was obviously based off of Gene Simmons -_-
So all in all that always brings up a question at the store. Was anime better when it was niche and unknown? Because now we see more anime's catering to an American audience, because now studios are banking on the success of an American export. Shows like Naruto being a big seller reinforce that thought.
So I'm curious to see what other people think. Do you think big anime's like Naruto hurt the american anime market due to the fact that people largely ignore the other titles. Kind of like a temporary monopoly...
