Well we now know that Elizabeth and Meliodas met on the battlefield as enemies, back when they were bloodthirsty warriors.
Meliodas underestimated Elizabeth and supposedly, in a battle, she overwhelmed him. Naturally a powerful enemy, whom is female, would be interesting to Meliodas.
Maybe they fought more than once?

In my opinion, i think meliodas really fight elizabeth... Remember in the manga, chapter 315: THE FINAL WAR. where meliodas and Elizabeth fought with the demon lord who were in zeldoris body. Meliodas said " If you were underestimate her, you are cruising for a bruising. I'VE BEEN THERE TOO. As lord of demon world, you must know what they called her there." That's mean Meliodas fight with Elizabeth but end up hurting.
