wow this is my 100th post, i never thought i'd reach it, so i felt i should start a new topic to celebrate. and what better topic title then how do you guys and gals celebrate special events. EDIT: actually say how you would celebrate anything that comes to mind, dose not have to a special event, anything you wish to celebrate really.

im one of those people that cant hide my emotions so if im celebrating im very loud and i make sure everyone knows it :smile-big.
i usually celebrate my birthdays going out clubbing with friends and dancing the night away.
winning football games or even scoring i end up doing some gymnastics all over the place.
in my family you pass a major exam and what awaits you is a major feast.
i'll stop for now

in the british culture celebrations aint really that mind blowing compared to other cultures but its still beautiful, and thats the reason i wish to start this thread. i hope many of you guys and gals will show us all the beauty of celebrations in your culture
if any british person see this please lend me a hand it captivating the MH puplic the beauty of our culture, i know our culture is really beautiful but i must say im bad at putting the examples to words.

many thanks in advance to all whom share with us their culture.

Re: How you CELEBRATE????

The way I celebrate pretty much varies, depending on the circumstances (mostly how much money I have at the time XD) but the last major celebration I had was my birthday two years ago ( yes it's been a while >.> ) and it was at a bar with all my close friends from campus - some who had never met others at the time - something I never really experienced before or since, so it was pretty neat. :)

Also went to the movies with my gf of the time on the same afternoon, it was quite eventful. I think we watched Pirates of the Caribbean captioned ( she had never seen it and thought I hadn't either, but I had, but I didn't tell her =/ ) but enjoyed it regardless.

The reason I haven't had any celebrations since then is 'cause simply put I don't celebrate until I'm with people and most of my friends are gone now >.<

Re: How you CELEBRATE????

The last time that I really celebrated was New Years about 2 years ago (I tend to be rather quiet). I was over at my cousins house and we had a lot of friends over. I will not go into too many details but it was a very fun and interesting night. Although at one point I remember trying to pose for a group pic, someone stumbling and falling over....and of course I landed on the bottom with like 5 people squashing me. x_x

But other than that it was fun. :amuse

Re: How you CELEBRATE????

Well, drinking for a celebration is ok if you've got the genes to handle it (and sounds like you do XD ). I'm a descendant of a big Welsh family - I can pretty much go three beers without feeling drunk, but the fourth beer is when I get harder to understand (and start having trouble understanding lip reading too), and it's around the sixth and seventh bottles that I start to get into trouble. Especially if I drink beer mixed with other kinds of alcohol ( which I usually did with my rugby teammates who would buy shots for everybody ).

Of course that's all on a full stomach, and I ALWAYS made sure I ate something before drinking, to avoid blacking out.

I haven't quite QUIT drinking altogether, but I stick to only one-two beer in any given day now, and I don't do it often, but if the occasion came around and I had a lot of friends with me, I would be OK with a little celebration. The key is moderation - after all you don't want to completely forget the night XD

Re: How you CELEBRATE????

yeah i can relate to that. drinking with your rugby mates...
we only had 1 game a year so its like a big school festival when it happens.
first you play your ass off and get tired. then you're happy as hell for winning.
here comes the drinking and then you realize that youre 14 and youve drunk
to much and whops thats a cop.... my mom was pissed xD

All that would have been visable of me maybe would have been a hand....and some of my hair. And you know...now that I think about I am not sure what the guy with the camera was doing at that moment....probebly trying to get the hell out of the way so he did not end up somewhere in the mess. That would have been a great picture though like you were saying. :amuse

A cop? Sounds like that night did not end too well.

Drinking can be fun if you are with a large group of friends. But like GK was saying...moderation is the key. I think that I have only had one time in my life that I did not remember the night too clearly (only bits and pieces)...and I swore that would never happen again. o_o

So yup....only very rarely do I celebrate like that.

I have something similar to a phobia of crowds, so I don't celebrate with lots of people, but with my really close friends. Together we can be quite loud and stupid, although we are usually rather quiet. Unfortunately, one of my friends tends to drink too much, which makes for some embarrassing situations. I can remember a lot of those little parties, because I never drink. The next day I like to make fun of my friends. :p Yes, I know I'm mean.

My birthdays are usually celebrated with my family. I get my presents in the morning and my mother cooks all my favourite dishes. Two or three weeks later I celebrate it again with my friends, because my birthday is between Christmas and New Year and therefore always in the holidays. :)

To be honest I don't tend to celebrate very often, even if there'd be a cause for it.
If I do, I usually go out with my friends to a club or bar and I pay a few rounds. Being close-fisted/cheap is a major crime in my eyes. That doesn't mean that you have to throw the money out of the window all the time ;)

I doubt this behaviour is exemplary for a German. Celebrating here isn't very different from other countries, but maybe I just don't know enough about partying in other cultures :p
People tend to drink alot of beer (of course, the German cliche kicks in here with full effect  xD) and be merry :nuts

Same here. I can drink  a lot of beer, but if I drink mix-drinks (like Jack-Daniels with coke, Mochito, you know all the stuff with juices and lots of sugar in it ;)) I get wasted in no time. It makes me throw up as well. That's why I tend to stick with either beer or vodka xD
A Japanese friend of mine gets wasted after one beer only and then we somehow have to carry her home  :p

I usually celebrate by becoming happier than I am. That is ... small victories are celebrated with sweets, medium victories with something very pleasant, like an exquisite meal with some people, large victories with a great party in the best sense of the name (if there's a way I hate to party, it's grooving).

About drinking. My favourite drink is wine, so I mostly use some semi-sweet wines for celebration. Something else you can't escape around here is pure 40% spirit, known worldwide as "vodka" (in russian "voda" means water, so "vodka" happens to translate as chibi-water, LOL). It's OK to drink it in moderate quantities, but don't the most widespread Bomb Combo is to mix vodka with beer. Many party animals use it for quick effect. That's the easiest way to autopilot and also to headache next day.

i just left(quite) my workplace for the last 2years last week, and my now ex work mates and i felt to we should go out and celebrae. so we went out on saturday to some club. i had such a wicked time. even though i dont drink, it dont bother me others drinking but i agree with GK on "moderation". i enjoyed working with those guys, we where all roghly same age with same interest. and now it came to an end.

but thats how my social groups usually celebrate here. go to a bar first to meet up and get a few drinks to start the night then head to a club where we dance the night away...   i love dancing.

I'm swedish, like Boffenjl, so I usually go drinking. Mostly vodka, mainly 'cause it's pretty cheap.
Last time I was on a party was yesterday. Me and some of my friends went to a camp we spent two weeks in last summer. One of my friends dad is a janitor there so he opened up everything and so on...
We've started playing poker everytime we celebrate something lately.

it all depends on how happy i am....

ok: i throw my arms to the air and yell "oh yeah!"
good: i drink
great: i buy a round of drinks for my friends
really really good: i buy a round of drinks for my friends, and get wasted
