Hey, do you mean that "You're Welcome" like what you say when someone says thank you to you? If its like that Finnish version should be "Ole hyvä" not Olet tervetullut.

[yomiko]changed, thanks Punky fish ^^[/yomiko]

Re: How to say "Thank You" and "You're Welcome" in your language

Now, since Gin and me got into this on MSN, we got curious what "thank you" and "you're welcome" means in other languages. And since this is a very multi-lingual forum, i'm quite sure we can create a nice long list here!

Share your knowledge with out, everyone! :D

"Thank You"

Arabic = "Shukran"
Bulgarian = "Blagodarya"
Cebuano = "Daghang Salamat"
Chinese = "Xie xie"
Czech = "děkuji"
Danish = "Tak"
Dutch = "Dankjewel" or "Dank u" (= more formal than "Dankjewel", though much used), "Dankje"
Filipino = "Salamat" ("Maraming salamat" if you want to say "Thank you very much" or the more literal "Thanks a lot/Many thanks")
Finnish = "Kiitos!"
French = "Merci"
German = "Danke"
Greek = "Eucharisto" / "Ευχαριστώ (Efharisto)"
Hawaiian = "Mahalo"
Hungarian = "Koszonom"
Irish = "Go raibh maith agat"

Polish = "Dziękuje"
Portuguese = "Obrigado"
Russian = "Spaseeba"
Serbian = "Hvala"
Spanish = "Gracias"
Swedish = "Tack", "Tackar"
Turkish = "Teşekkürler"
Vietnamese = "Cam On"

"You're Welcome"

Arabic = "Afwan"
Bulgarian = "Molya / Pak zapovyaday"
Chinese = "Bu keqi"
Czech = "není zač" or "za málo"
Danish = "Det var så lidt"
Dutch = "Graag gedaan"
Filipino = "Walang anuman" ("No problem" is closer in meaning than "you're welcome" though)
Finnish = "Ole hyvä"
French = "De rien"
German = "Bitte" or "Gern geschehen"
Greek = "Παρακαλώ (Parakalo)"
Hawaiian = "He mea iki"
Hungarian = "Szivesen"
Irish = "(Tá) fáilte romhat"
Italian = "Prego"
Japanese = "Dou itashimashite"
Lithuanian = "Nėra už ką"
Malay & Indonesian = "Sama-sama"
Norwegian = "Det var så lite/ værsågod"
Polish = "Proszę"
Portuguese = "De nada"
Russian = "Pazhalooysta"
Serbian = "Nema na čemu"
Spanish = "De nada"
Swedish = "VarsÃ¥god (formal) / Det är lugnt (informal)"
Turkish = "Rica ederim"
Vietnamese = "Knong Co Chi"

Re: How to say "Thank You" and "You're Welcome" in your language

dank u is indeed more formal than dank je (meaning both thank you) but I think dutchmen are faster used to say dank je, while we - belgians - are used to speak formal in our own language and others

eg: it's your turn -> dutchmen: het is aan jou/je while belgians: het is aan u

I didn't see the French version of "I love you" so I decided to post.
I love you = "je t'aime" or "je vous aime" (depending on the pronoun you use to address to the person)
For the French translation of "you're welcome" you can also say "je t'en prie" (or "je vous en prie")
