Is it just me or are most of the fights in JJK lacklustre now? I was thinking about why...and it's because most of the people fighting have no character development whatsoever. The author just kinda sprung a whole bunch of new characters at us without really giving us any reason to care about them.

Hakari was introduced chapters and chapters ago ..

However, this is an arc about a tournament, and the focus of the story lies in the fighting, and the motivations for fighting, which have already been explained ....

Not to mention that this tournament has started for what, about twenty chapters?

That is, Yu Hakusho's black martial arts tournament lasted about sixty chapters, there would be no problems if this lasted as long if not longer, given the implications that he has .....

With the exception of Higuruma, agreed.

I'm just waiting to get back to the main plot/narrative at this point.

This looks bad for Hakari but the fact that he's yet to have a Flashback but Hajime has leads me to believe that Hakari will get a second wind

I also dont think he is gonna die, we still need to see more context, plus the last page of the chapter hasnt even been leaked yet.

Also this fight most likely is gonna end in 189 (plus vol finale) with Hakari maybe pulling something finishing things up, and from 190 onwards resuming with the main plot and everything might slowly start coming together.

Not sure what you're asking exactly, but of the new characters, I think Higuruma's characterization/development is the standout.

We know too little about new characters, about the history of Kashimo and Ryu we are only just starting to discover, and about Uro we know almost nothing.

Can't see Hakari die yet. He didn't do anything that would impact the story so far, so his death would be a shame. But I do have the feeling that he will defeat Kashimo using some special trick.

That's the issue with having so many fights with so many new characters, yeah.

I mean I understand where people are coming from, but I do think people are being a little hyperbolic here. We got motivations and histories for pretty much everyone who matters (Higuruma, Kashimo, Ryu, and Uro). Just because we didn’t get full on flashbacks for all of the characters doesn’t mean we didn’t get motivations, characterization, or personalities. I’m not gonna act like all these guys are S-tier characters, but they still have character.

It's not a tournament.

The series is one of the most well-liked in Jump atm. I think it can handle a little pushback.

I can’t speak for lexx, but I never said these characters don’t have any motivations, characterization, or personalities. Just that Higuruma is the only standout in that regard.

And it’s why you usually want to do this characterization before a conflict instead of mid-fight.

If you look at the spoilers on Mangasail, you will see Hakari announces a ''special'' gambling move in the end which surprises Kashimo
